The Moncton Times reports that a yourg Frenchman was robbed of 395 and a watch by another Frenchman named Levigne on the train between Newcastle and Bathurst on Thursday. The two had been talking and drinking gin during the ride, and it was after the victim had fallen asleep the robbery was committed. Levigne was cap- tured shortly alter getting off the train.

Swatiowep His Texru.—A Philadelphia man swallowed his teeth while eating fruit at 1 street stand. It took a button-hook, a policeman and a file of men, with power to win any tug of war in the country, to dis- lodge the distressing impediment from the man’s throat. The policeman did the best preliminary work with his vigorous thumping of the vietim’s back, though the crowd grew loud and indignant over what seemed ar. out rage. They did not know the gentleman had bitten off more than he could swallow.

Forxp Deap ON THE Roav.—On Saturday evening last, as John Montgomery, of Nau frage, was returnin from Souris, he saw a dead man lying on the road near Rollo Bay cross roads. Fie recognized the body as that of Fidele Deagle, an aged resident of ve neighborhood. He at once notified the noe tives, who took charge of it. It appears that the deceased had gone with a horse and cart toa spring for water, and after ~*~ eo barrels was on his “7 home when he fe en the cart and died. e was subject to hea disease, and there is no doubt but this was the cause of death, He was a very quiet, respectable and good living man, and wa about 80 years of age. Under the circum- stances an inquest was considered oem sary. A Coroner's certificate to that e . having been obtained, the remains were in terred in the Roman Catholic cemetery at Rollo Bay.

Hancep.—Walter H. Lennox, the murderer of Arthur Preller, was hanged at St. Louis, Mo., on Friday last. Early on the morning of the execution, Maxwell issued a long ad- dress to the people of England, in which he severely comments upon the American idea of justice, and charges that the government even resorted to crime itself to secure his convic tion.

Tue Mackeret FisHertes.—Mackerel are still very scarce along the coast. Fishermen in consequence are somewhat despondent. Several American seiners have already started for home, and more are preparing to go. The cruisers Acadia and Critic were in Souris on Saturday. They have had little or nothing to do this summer, so far; hut there is no knowing when the mackerel may show up, and when they do, the cruisers’ services will be in demand. Shore fishermen are still liv ing in hopes of doing something yet with the hook and line.
