Cheese is selling oa Untario boards today about a ceat and # half per pound bigher thau ihe prices of @ year ago. Butter in Montreal is trom three and a half to fourcents higher than the prices of a year ago. The Canadian Grocer figures out that if the same amount of cheese has been marketed thus far as for the like period in 1899 the increased value repre- sents over $230,000. But ae a matter of fact the exports to date are nearly 60,000 boxes more than last year. The enhanced value of butter,compared wih an equal volume of sales a year ago, represents, according to the Grocer, about $80,000. Both the butter and cheese makers are very firm ia tne west. Friday’s Star quotes cheese at 10 to 10 1-8c tor western, and says as high as 107-8c was paid on one Ontario board; while butter in Mont~ real for export is held at 20} to 204c.
