Probably the order relates only to Austrian vessels of war, in order to avoid the irnportunitios. of the Turks that they should join the allied floats in the Black Sea.

At St. Pstersburg. on_ the Sth the government paper was 12 per cent discount.

According to advices from Turin. of the loth ult., the Sardinisn government has issued an or- dor pohibiting any privatoers under the Russian flag from being armed, provisioned or harbored, with their prises, in Sardinian ports.

The French squadron that has sailed from Brest, under Admiral hives. to rein roe Napier in the Baltic. is composed of the line of battle ships Iuflsxible. Jamsppss. Tags, Breslau, and frigates Darien, Poursuivante, and Sam- illsnto.

The English and French ships of war on the coast of Thessaly are ordered to search all vessels suspected of having munitions of war on board, and to noise those in which they may be discover- ed. Ionian vessels carrying passengers without passports, are also seiaed.

It is rumoured that the point on which the Austrian and Prussian governments cannot agree is the occupation of the frontiers touching on Rus- sian Polan . The court party, it seems. is dis- inclined to the idea, and Baron liudborg sgitates against Baron Hess.

a calm and disspssaionets view of the conduct of both Hoesesof the Legislature during the late session, it of that portion of the Legislative Council which pro- fssses to uphold Responsible Government in its purity little tallied with their professions. Her Majesty's Home Government, in reply to the earnest prayer-of the Colony, that the troops stationed in Charlotte- town miglit be allowed to remain, gave for answer that the establishment of an eflicient police force was " a preliminary indispensibls towards any reconsider- ation of the dssision of Her Majesty’s Government in reference to the withdrawal of the troops from the Colony." Government was made known to both Houses, and a bill for this purpose was passed in the House of Assembly, and. strange to say. rejected in the Coun- cil—-and why! not approve of the principle of the bill; but because

In redericton. N.B., they are blowing up the ice with gun-powder. An experiment was made on the 92nd, where the ice was 22 inches thick, and over it were four int-hos of half melted snow. A hole was out through the ice, and a tin vessel containing twenty pounds of powder. was put down into the hole under the ice and the charge flred by means of a galvanic battery, which resul- ted iu heaving up the water and ice over an irre- gular area of at least thirty feet in diameter, of nearly 00 feet.
