VP External Candidate

Hi, my name is Chris Lar- son. I’m a fourth-year student, attaining my BSc with a major in biology. I would like to of- fer my candidacy for the posi- tion of Vice-President External. This is a postion of repsonsibil- ity within your Student Union involving hard work and honest committment. I feel that I would be able to statisfy this strict re- quirement.

I have had experience with the Student Union in previous years. I was the Campaign Man- ager for a former Student Union President and I fell that I gained valuable insight into the machin- ery and ideals that that run the Union. I have been involved with the Orientation Committee (but

don’t hold that against me!). I have been a member of CIMN radio, done some feelance work for The Gem and am currently a member of the UPEI Biology Society. I have four years’ expe- rience within a Militia unit and feel that my experience of work- ing within a controlled structural environment would be a valuable asset to the Union.

As a relatively new face in the University’s political arena I feel that my enthusiasm and hard work would benefit you as I plan to ensure that I’ll do all I can to ensure that the Student Union remains accesible to stu- dents. My grass-roots approach to issues will provide new isight into ideas. Of course, one of the

important issues facing students is the Federal budget freeze of provincial transfer payments. It doesn’t take much to forsee that this freeze will have a direct and very serious repercussion. or the ammount of funding the provin- cial governmant will supply to this University. The next two years will have a direct impact on ther next decade of post- secondary education Canada. As your representative, part ofr my mandate will be to ensure you are represented in liasons with the provincial government and with

other Universities of the CFS. During the period of Mon-

day to Thursday I hope you will vote for me and vote for hard- working and reliable representa- tion. Thank you.

Upei Theatre Troupe to Perform Comedy Hit

The annual production of the UPEI Student Theatre Society will take place on March 15, 16 and 17 (Thursday through Satur- day) at 8:00 p.m. in the Macken- zie Theatre in downtown Charlot- tetown.

This year’s production will be the classic hit comedy “Hay Fever” by the popular English playwright Noel Coward. “Hay Fever” is a hilarious farce about as zany British theatrical family.

This year’s production will be directed by professional director,

actor, writer and teacher, Greg- son Winkfield, who directed last

year’s highly successful produc- tion, “The Beaux Strategem”. Winkfield has acted and directed in England, the United States, and across Canada, and is the founder of the Island’s only the- atre school, Island Drama Centre.

The student cast includes Laurie Murphy, Maryanne Fitz- patrick, Ted baker, Ewan Clark, Laurie Linkletter, Dianne Camp- bell, Craig Cormier, and Gordon Cobb. A large and able crew

of other students has been work- ing hard behind the scenes on the production, under the super- vision of Stage Manager Laurie Currie, and including Assistant Stage Manager Rod Weatherbee, Props Manager Edward Forbes, Costume Designer Judy Squires, Adrian the master Set Designer, Artist Tracy Arsenault, and Pub- licity Manager Heather Doiron.

Tickets for the performance are $4 for students, seniors, and unwaged, and $6 for the general public.
