THIRTY NATIVE VILLAGES BURNED,

Simia, Dec. 4.—Further despatches from the front say that the Kuron column of the punitive force of Brit:sh troops, which met with a fierce resistance on its march into the Cabmkanni country, where thirty villages of insurgents were burned, has continued its advance and _ irflicted heavy punishment on them. They had an almost inaccessible position on heights which wee stormed in fine style by the Goorkhas who captured the position at the point of the bayonet. Many tribesmen were killed. :

Of the British force Major Sittack and two men were wounded avd two privates

killed. The Maharajah, Sir Poalate Singh, was shot in the hand during the fight.

Fort Warxe, Ind., December 3.—A special train of four cars was run at an unprecedented rate of speed, between Pittsburg and Chicago, over the Peonsy!- vania road, for the purpose of ascertaining the possibility of reducing the time of the limited express to 20 hours between New York and Chicago. The train left Pitts- burg at 6.58 a. m., andarrived at Chicago at 5 o'clock, making the 468 miles in 602 minutes, The same train left Chicago at 9a.m.,reaching Pittsburg at 6.25 p. m., making the eastward run 37 minutes quick— er than the westward run, which breaks all previous recorda,

Warsaw, Ind., Dec. 2.—Five robbers entered Miles & Higbee’s bank, at Milford, early today. They bound and gagged the bight watchman. Dr. Black who was passing on nis way home, was also seized and gagged. The robbers then drilled a hole in the safe and seven charges of dyn- amite were exploded, but they only dis- figured the safe without opening it.

New York, Dec. 3—A_ special to the Press from Matteawan, N. Y., says the gold craze in Fishkill, created by the dis- covery of a large nugget of gold in the mountaing east of that villege, is still uvabated. Gold seekers are seen wending their way up the mountain with pickaxe and shoveldaily, with hopes of finding more of the precious metal. It is reported that another nugget of metai, supposed to be composed of gold and silver, was found on the south side of the Fishkill mour- tains and that the metal will be taken to New York to be assayed.
