Davis Points to the Govern.ment’s Bad Faith With Our Farmers.

Orrawa, March 31.—The Senate by a vote of 52 to 14 threw out the Yukon bill last night.

The Minister of Justice spoke at length in defence of the bill.

Senator U’Donaghue said that, though a Liberal, he could not support the Govern- ment in this measure which he boldly de~ clared to be one of the biggest steals ever perpetrated in the history of the country.

Senator Macdonald, of P. E. Island, protested against the alienation of the minipog lands and the oppression involved to the miners. He could not see how apy reasonable men could support the com- pact.

The only Conservative Senator who voted with the Government was Senator Dobson, whe, like Colone! Hughes, is of the eame locality as the contractor Mc- Kenzie and like Colovel Hughes veted with the Governraent.

Senator O’Donoghue (Liberal) roted against the bill as did Senators Boulton and Belirose who sometimes voted with the Liberals.

Senator Frank Smith was paired m favor of the bill. All the other Covserva tives whom the g¢ontractors counted in their favor voted against the bill.

Orrawa, March 3i.—In the House of Commons Mr. Davin proposed his motion “ That good faith on the part of the present government with the farmers of the North West should compe! them to place agricul- tural imp’ ements on the free |:st ”

In an able speech, Mr. Davin showed that the government was pledged to free farm machinery. His speech was full of clever epigram and sarcasm in which he presented the sharp contraet between grit promise and grit performance.

In the evening the House sat through a docket of private bills and some public orders and adjourned early.
