PREDI’CTIONS AND 1 RESULTS

At the first of this year we warned new Panther Rooters that the way would not al— ways be easy and, when we wrote this, we had no idea that our statement would be verified so soon. This past weekend we wone none and lost four in regular sports and, in the other, faded away like the snow in Spring. To add to our own woe, as we peck away at this, the Expo's appear to be rained out in a game they need to win and Phili— delphia has scored three in the first against Chicago.

In Soccer our boys found Nova Scotia most in- hospitable as they dropped a 2—0 close one to Saint Mary's on Saturday and were then whcmped 4-0 by Dalhousie on the following day. They will be back in the frie- ndly confines of MacAdam Field Saturday afternoon against Saint Mary's at 3:00 and then on Sunday at 2:00 when Dal will be the

opposition. H0pefully they'll get a lot of fan support.

In Field Hockey the news isn't very good either. ‘ Last week Coach Mullally opined that what her girls REALLY needed was the FIRST score and She urged this policy change on her charges. Carolyn Drake, folloWing Barbara's instr— uctions, netted the ball early in action against Moncton and it looked as though the Pantherettes were on their way. Un—

Patti Bradley was very unfor- tunate when her shot, that would have tied the match, skimmed over the top of the net. Mary Morrison played well and Heather MacDougall was very good in goal. .the sad part was that the Memorial goalie was also very good. This weekend the girls face a tough schedule as they travel to St. F.X. and then

on to Dalhousie. _ We wish then well. We must

not forget to apologise to Barbara Mullally for corrmenting on her shouted instructions to her team. We now find we were mis— taken in our observation as ‘ the Coach is prohibited frcm sideline coaching

in Field Hockey! We have now been told that Barbara was explaining the fine points of the game to the

spectators! Sorry Coach. Expo's now playing and trailing!

In Golf our team of Brian Ostroski, Lee Bramner,

Zippy Taylor and Jim McInnis travelled to Fredericton for the annual inter- collegiate tournament (whick we won in 1978) and ended

\Duane Sprague, the towering

and rugged defencenan, frcm when much is expected this year, injured his

. ankle walking across campus

and is now limping about and will not be able to practise for quite sane time. We consider that we are experienced and expert in the ankle depart- ment and will be quite willing to give advice or help.

We have sneaked into the

gym a few times and watched

the Basketball Boys going through their workouts and we have high hopes that our sad succession of re- counting losses will end when they get into action'. Much as we would hate it, it must be easy to write- for S.M.U. 1!!

Back in the old S.D.U. days they had a sort of

a second team in both hockey and basketball that played in what was then called the "City

JOCK TALK

League". 'Ihis practise gave good exper‘ ience to marginal or young players. We commend Dave Nutbrown for going back to this

old practise and. inaugu- rating a freshman teamat UPEI that will play in the local league. rthis should

develop young players and give then lots of action so that, hopefully, they'll be- cane intercollegiate Panthers in the future. -
