(rreat secrecy was observed as to family character and associations of the deceas- ed, and it was only three days ago we ascertained, through a special channel, that she had lived and died at Preston. A short time before her death she, with her son, went specially to London and stayed there for a week,certain arrange- ments being made during their sojourn in the metropolis. Ino her last illzess she called her son to her bedside, gave him good counsel and advised him tc be content with hisypresent station in life, as any departure fromit might be attended with inconvenience to his happivess. During her lifetime there were from timeto time communica- tions passing between London and Scotland and the deceased, which in- clines us to think that the so-called error of her marriage was viewed in a by no means very harsh light and the events which subsequently took place strongly confirms this view. The deceased was a ripe scholar, a good linguist, possess- ed a well balanced mind and left be- hind her many things bearing Royal descent. These, we understand, are about to be, if they have not already beep, sent to a certain quarter. A volu- minous correspondence has been comi- mitted to the flames by order of certain wuthorities and a diary kept by husband and wife bas shared the same cruel fate. Many of the books bore marginal notes in ink, and these, too, have been subjected to the same fiery ordeal. Jn accordance with instructions officially given, all manuscripts and letters have been destroyed, while some articles have been sent off to London and Scotland. — London Truth.
