‘CHE Artirictat Suate is the product

of a mixture of mineral substances, ksown to be the best non-conducters of heat as well as the most indestructible ; the chemical a‘finity of which converts the surfaces of materials covered, into a Coating of -iclual Slate—Proof agains: FIRE and WATER. Thus the laws of nature are made to accomplish results as surprising as they are useful, by render- ing wooden fabrics as durable as brick or stone, and jess pervious to moisture, and consequently preventing decay and destruction from corroding influences hi- therto supposed unattainable.

The principal ingredients are Alumina, Silica and the Oxides of Iron. The ad- besive quality of the latter not only binds and attracts the particles together, but the substance is coverec also, The longer exposed to the weather the more powerful the attraction, and consequently the hard- er the slate. As various shades of colour are obtained, Black buildings may be made impervious tg moisture, ard the fashionable colours of either Free Stone or Granite. The oil must be evaporated by the action of the weather before it is Fire proof, which will take from nine to twelve months,

The Metariic Paints, Purple and med, are offered as Weather and Water proof solely. \iieir base being Iron, se- cures them from Galvanic action so fatal to lead and other Parsts on fron work — and their cheuteal conbdination makes i impossible that any change should take place from atmospheric influence, or the action of sajt water and sulpiurated hy- drogen, so prevalent im sea ports and tidal harvours. ‘Vhey surpass ail Paints yet discovered in Chewpuess and Durability, which render then pre-eannently adapted to the covering of all kinda of Tron work, such as Shipping, Mills, bridges, Steam Blachinery, Kuilway Cars, and tren Rail- ing. The Merauure Painrs have been analysed by Professor Hays of Boston. The following ts an extract from his Cer- tificate:—“* As a permanent pigment, this mineral must rank with the most ides fructible and unch mgeable bases. For co- vering Metalic Ware, its composition shews that it is eminently fitted.

From its adhesive qualities and the manner it co- vers the wood, | have no doubt but it will be more durable and much cheaper than any other paint used for such purposes, and would recommend it to the public generally. The Artificial Slate Paint, if it was more generally used we would have less fires in our City than we have had, it also preserves the shingles from Rot; the cheapness of your Paints ie highly in their favour, 1f nothing else,

Dear Srr,—Please send us two more barrele of your Artificial Siate. We have seen some of the good effects of it at the Jast fire. Some of the Roofs covered with it did not catch at all, and when walls were burnt sone of the roofs came down in one piece, and others were the means of saving the building,especial- ly one roof alongside of the Bank BN. A., which also was one means of saving the Bank.

THIS admirable article has been tested for some years, and proved very valuable, becoming a perfect slate, as hard as mar- ble in a few months, completely protect- ing whateyer is coated with it from the action of weather and fire—a better fire- proof than tin or xine. Several Insurance Companies certify they will imsare build- ings covered with it at a cheaper rate, than if covered with those metals. It is of two colors, the black is best for roof- ing—the chocolate the best thing ever ciscovered for sides of either brick or wood, forming a perfect stone coating of a handsome stone or.chocolate color, can be easily changed by a little white lead to suit the taste.
