A Care Breton rough, named George Forrester, who was arrested for a depreda- tion he committed a short time ago, was on Thursday last sentenced to ten years’ im- prisonment in the Provincial penitentiary.

Tue Bonnet Hop which takes place in the Athenzeum to-night promises to be a grand affair. .As this is the first of the, now popular, Bonnet Hops given in Charlotte- town, we expect to see a large number pres- ent.

Mx. McKescunie offers 350 reward for any information leading to the apprehension and conviction ef the-party who placed ob- structions upon. the railway track, near Argyle siding, on the nights of the 9th, 10th and 27th of September last.

Tue October session of the Supreme Court will terminate in Prince County on Thursday. On Tuesday evening the great wharf suit between the trustees of the Mc- Ewen estate and Charles Green, which lasted for four days, was brought to a close. The result was a verdict for the plaintiffs with. law points reserved.

A TeLecRaM to Mr. M. A. Cameron, In- surance Agent of this city, brings the intel ligence of a heavy fire at Bray, Lot 9, on Tuesday night, when the steam mills of McKinnon Bros,, of that place, were burned to the ground. The loss is estimated at $5,000. The mills were insured in the Can- ada Fireand Marine for $2,500.

Messrs. J, H. Meacoam & Co. have presented us with portraits of the Marquis of Lorne and Princess Louise, litographed especially for the Illustrated Historical Atlas of Prince Edward Island, which they are now preparing for the press. The like- nesses.are, we think, good ; and the pictures are artistically finished.

A rEPoRT comes from Shediac that on Saturday some scoundrels desecrated the grave of the late Mrs. Smith, opening up the coffin and fillmg the grave with slabs and other rubbish. It is probable that the miscreants hoped to find some jewelry about the body, but, whatever the motive, it is greatly to be hoped that the severest pun- ishment the law allows will speedily be meted out to them.

Ar the Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court, this forenoon, Daniel McNevin, drunk and disorderly on Euston street, was fined $3 and costs or 14 days; John McQuaid, for assaulting Michae) King, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor; Alex. Carpenter, for assisting in a fight on Hillsborough Square, was sentenced to 20 days’ imprisonment; James Kneed was fined $2 and costs or 8 days for being drunk and incapable.

Fara Accrpent,—A brakeman on the I. C. R., named Frank Kemble, came to his death at»the’ St. John railway station yesterday. He was to be on the night train from St. John for Halifax last even- ing, and was loitering around the station as No. 3 (Shediac freight) came in. He was walking away from the train when, from some causé, he lost his balance and fell off the narrow platform to the track,—falling in such a position that, the train being right upon him, his left arm and both legs were ,severed from his body, which re- mained between the rails. The unfortunate man died a short time after. Deceased was

a young man, unmarried, and belonged to St. John. He had been a long time on the line—was formerly a conductor, but was recently put back to brakeman.
