NEW YORK (AP)—Lew Bur- dette of Milwaukee and Bob Por- tertield of Washington. a couple of rlghthanders New York Yankees traded in 1951. are making a lot oi.’ headway in the major league earned run averages as the 1954 campaign streaks into its third month.

The 27 - year - old Burdette. obtained from the Yankees in a transaction which sent Johnny Saln to New York. paces the National League with s 2.25 earned run mark. He has given up 21 earned runs in 84 inning while posting a 6-5 won-lost record.

Porterfield‘s figures are even more impressive. Although he is runner-up to Detroit's Ned Garver in the American League competit- ion. Porterfield has permitted only 24 earned runs In 105 frames for a 2.06 average. He has won seven and dropped five games.

Garver. in 12 games, has yielded 22 runs in 95 innings. but seven of the runs were unearned. His earned run slate is a sizzling 1.42 Ned has four victories against two setbacks.
