Mr. Ritzmann. liaison officer at Chalk River since Sept. 1 1961, commented in a letter published in the Washingto Post Monday on an editorial in e newspaper praising Canada for its quick support of U.S. ac- tion in the Cuban crisis.

In Ottawa. an official of the .S. embassy sai Ritzmann’s recall was ordered by the US state department after publica- tion of the critical letter. He said the letter was spotted in Washington Monday by officials who went into action imme- diatcly. The official said the U.S. gov- ernment does not permit diplo- mats or other American govern- ment representatives ‘in foreign countries to comment on the af- fairs of the countries to which they are accredited. He said Mr. Ritzmann “was way out of his field on this one.“

Mr. Ritzmann. who resides at Deep River. Ont.. adjacent to the Chalk River plant. had no comment on his recall. A U.S. embassy official said he has been instructed to make no statement.

No CANADIAN PROTEST

The U.S. embassy spokesman said that as far as he knows there was no protest by Can- ada to the .8. state depart- ment over the letter. He added that he believes Mr. Ritzmann’s recall ‘is the first involving an American govern m e n t repre- sentative in Canada.
