Reported Luck of a Charlottetonian at Dawson.
The Journal, of Ottawa, lately received a letter from George J. Jamieson, of Daw- son City, formerly of Ottawa, telling of the’ good fortune of Mr. T.G. Owen, soa of A.W Owen, E:q,@ native of Char- lottetown, who is reported to have made a fortune in Alaska. The letter is as follows:
“Having left my home in Ottawato seek my fortune in the gold fields of Alaska ard having met with a great many young men from our district in this part of the country, I thought that a few words about one of the most prosperous would be of iaterest to his many frieods in Canada. The young man of whem I tell is T. G. Owen, of Ottawa. Mr. Owen left his home the early part of last April to fill a govern:nent position on the Stickeen river,which position he held until September. Having heard of the wouderful discovery made in this part of Alaska, he resigned his position and came to Dawson City, arriving here oa October 3rd, 1898, and in the short space of two months has by good luck and management made an independent fortune, which bis many friends will undoubtedly be pleased to hear.
“Mr. Owen is hat a young man, baving seen but 22 summers, but isas capable ot transacting the business connected with his interests as any man in thie part of the gold regioa.

“Mr, Owen’s start was made through a claim on French Hill, whicao he pur- chased for $250, and in ten dave he had disposed of the same for$3,500. Having thea a capital with which he could oper- ate, he quickly increased his original capi tal uatil now he has a_— email fortune, of which many of the old-timers are envious. Mr. Owen is the youngeat eon of Mr. A. W. Owen, of the marine department. Mr. Owen will leave this country for the east this coming summer. Convention and Meeting ot D. 0.8. —Papers relating to the, Work of the Church.
The avoual Convention of the Church of England in this Proviace, was held in St. Paul’s Schoolroom yesterday after- nooo. The Presideut, Mr Justice Fitz gerald, occupied the chair and delivered a forcible address on the work and needs of the Church.
A capital paper on the relationship of the clergy and the laity was then read by Mr. James Millmao, of French River.
Remarks upon the excellence of the paper were made by Archdeacon Reagh and Judge Warburton.
Rev, Mr. Withycome thea read a paper on the work of the Sunday School. Sub- sequently Mr. Withycome gave an ivter~ e-tirg acconut of the formation and success of the Boy’s Brigade of Summerside.
Ou motion it was requested that both
papers be again read at theD. C. 8. ineeting.
The officers for the ensuing year were than re-elected, viz. Mr. Justice Fitzgerald, President ; Mr. Perey Pope, Secrevary.

Your committee in meeting you again after the lapse of another year is glad to be able to report that the work of the church as a whole is progressing favorably.

Even until the day of our meeting we could have said thatour ranks bad re- mained unbroken by death ; but to-day we sre called upon to mourn the loss of an old and valued member of our Society, Dr. Leeming, whose knowledge and experi- ence will be missed not only by us but aleo by the community at large.
We canoot close without referring to the visit of the Diocesan and the missions beld by him which were deeply appreciated, and we regret that the time and season did not permitof bis remaining longer with us.

Rev. J. W. Forbes regrets the emigra- tion of forty~four members of bis congre~ gation and the death of nine others, mak-~ ing @ total loss of fifty-three, twenty-two being communicants. Still there is much to be thankful for. Services have been held regularly in a'l sections of the mie- sion. During the summer months, he held four services every Sunday. St. Luke’s Church, (Leary hes been renovat- ed,aud the energy avd pluck of the chureh- people in that locality is highly commend- able, Alberton section is also doing nobly. Mr. Forbes tenders his thanks to hia parishoners for many acts of kindness.
PORT HILL.
Rev. Henry Harper reports an interest— ing and stimulating meetizg of the Church Convention. The new church at Ellers- lie is almost completed, and is a little gem. The excellent work done on it by Mesers. H. W. Williams and E. England, is highly commended. St. James Guild ie still ina flourishing cundition, and the Sunday school has been better attended— though there is stil] room for improvement in that regard. Mr. Harper concludes with thanks to his parishioners.
NEW LONDON.
Progress is reported by the Rev. H.C. Aylwin, the rector, who acknowledges the belp be has received from the Rev. Arthur White, of St. Paul’s, the venerable Arch- deacon Reagh, of Milton, and others, The Church convention held at Irishtown would bave been an unqualified succe-, but forthe absence of the city delegates. Meetings of the Gleaners’ Union have been held at Irishtown and New London; and the Kensington brancin of the same union bas teen resuscitated. A miesicnary spirit is growing throughout the parish.

At East Baltic, Lot 46, on the 27th inst., after a lingering illness borne with exem pl- ary ‘patience and resignation to the Divine Will, Annie Chapman, beloved wife of F. H. MclIsasc, at the early age of 28 years, deeply regretted by a large circle of friends and acquaintances.
Consoled by the rites of the Hol Catholic Churck by the pastor, Rev. D. McDonald, she passed peacefully away to enjoy the reward which a life of suffering and sorrow in this world has merited for her ‘through the atoning blood of Jesus Chriet her Savior.
The deceased, who was always ofa pious famiable character endear d herself 10 & large number of friends and acqusint- ances, who will long cherish her momory. The esteem in which she was held was was amply attested to by the large number of people, of all denominations who followed her remains to St. Mary’s Church on Sunday afternoon — the,cortege tumber- ed over ninety sleighs—thence to St. Mary’s Cemetry where the last rites were performed and the mortal remains of a mostly estimable lady iaid at rest.
She leaves a husband, two children, a mother, two sisters, one brother and a large number of friends and acquaintances to mourn their loss.
