The session of this morning opened with the usual devotional exercises,

Several communications were read to the Conference upon which suitable action was taken. The minutes were read and adopt- ed. The resolution submitted by Dr. Sprague ve the St. John Preacher's Meet- ing, referred to by your correspondent, was then taken up de nova in the open Con- ference.

An amendment and an amendment to the amendment were proposed :

Whereas, No sufficient proof has been brought forward to the effect that the St. John Preacher’s Meeting has departed from the traditional policy of Methodism in its recent memorial to the Local Government, therefore this Conference deems it inexpedient that it should produce an opinion thereon.

The discussion lasted throughout the morning, and the amendment to the amend- ment was carried by a small mingrity, which was to the effect of throwing out the original resolution, with the understanding that the policy of the Conference had been sufficiently indicated by the discussion.

On Saturday afternoon an hour was spent in the discharge of some routine business, the pastoral address was read and adopted, and the session adjourned.

A largely attended Holiness meeting was held at night, which was of a very elevating character.

Besides the regular services in our own churches, and many supplies for other de- nominations, several mission and open air services were held in different part$ of the city by members of Conierence.

A wouderful meeting of the United Methodist Sunday Schools was held in Centenary Church at 3 o'clock. The body of the church was filled with a brilliant as- sembly of about 2,000 scholars. Effective addresses by Revs. Campbell, Dawson, Chappell and Lodge.

Ex-President Cleveland, with a large New York fishing party, will arrive at Glenora, Ont., some time in July. It is expected that they will spend several weeks fishing and ex- ploring the Bay of Quinte.

Rev. John Read, of this city, preached in Queen Square Methodist Church, St. John, on Sunday evening last. His text was ‘* 1 can do all things through Christ, who strengtheneth me.”—Phil. 4. 14 The Sun says the dis- course abounded in vigorous passages, apt illustrations and powertul appeals, and was one long to be remembered.

Mr. Gladstone's activity in his eightieth year is thus commented upon by so staunch an opponent as the London Times: It is, we believe an absolutely unparatieled feat that uader such conditions a statesman should not only hold his place as a party leader, like a Paimerston or a Thiers, but should under- take a missionary expedition te one of the strongholds of his opponents.
