CORONERS SQUABBELING —A_ dissolute woman named Mary Lane died suddenly in Halifax, on the 16th inst. Coroners Somers and Harrington were both anxious to hold an inquest. Harrington erdered that the body be net disturbed, while 5S mers ordered its removal to the morgue, and as Somers’ con- stable was on hand, he promptly removed the body and on the 17th inst. summoned a jury tor three o’clock. Harrington put in an early appearance and preceeded to hold an inqu:st with Somers’ jury. Somers arrived during the examination of the first witness and protested that Harrington’s inyuest would be illegal Au unseemly squabble ensued, resulting in Somers being ordered to quit, and Harrington proceeded with the inquest. It may be stat- ed that the coroner’s fee is seven dollars, hence the squabble. Coroner Harrington stated that Mrs. Carey, the principal witness, was too drunk t be called. The jury finally returned a verdict of death from heart disease and excessive use of liquor. >
