PANTHERS ARE 85.7%

We suppose we SHOULD be ecstatic over the fact that Panther teams over the weekend won 6 out of the 7 matches in which they participated. That is 85.7 %!

Our elation is somewhat dimmed, how- ever, in our disappoint- ment over the loss of the important soccer playoff game in which we were edged by highly favoured, eventual tmrnament winner, nationally ranked Saint Mary's. Those who saw the game in Fredericton tell us that our boys held a territorial edge throughout but were unable to bring off the real object of the game. . . putting the ball into their opponent's net. Coach Vincie Mulligan can take great encourage- ment from the season's play and can really advise fans "Wait until next year" for he will have all bit one or two players back. Mitch Murphy and high scorer Gary Polenz were picked as All-Conference players while Scott Neill, Andy Cameron, and Frank Strohmeier fell short of this honour. . . all by just one vote. The hockey Panthers, also playing in Fredericton, posted two good wins and, in so doing, ran their season's league record to 3—1 which is good enough to earn them a share of first place in their division. Saturday night they bested the UNB Red Devils 4—1 with our markers coming from Norman Beck, Mike Ready, Garth Arsenault, and Trevor Crawford. Sunday was Gary Trainor's day as the fast and shifty forward scored a hat trick with three goals
