Hicn Price ror Stamrs.—The stamp craze evidently has caught the blue noses of the Maritime Provinces in great style, for on Saturday a stamp was sold at the largest price ever paid for a Canadian stamp. Mr. H.F. Ketcheson, the well- known philatelist of Belleville and mai! clerk on the Grard Junction, on Saturday soid a stamp collector in Nova Seootia a 12d. Canadian stamp; issued in 1851, tor $500. Itwasan unused specimen and was, a8 may be expected, a very rare Stamp. The purchaser of this costly piece of paper is a bank manager in Nova Scoiia.— Peterborough Review,

Po.ice Covrr.—This forenoon George Offer, charged with a second infraction of the Canada Temperance Act, was convict- ed and fined in the sum of $100 and $3.10 costs or two months’ imprisonment. Peter Doyle, charged with a first infraction of the samé Act, was also convicted and a fine of $50 and $3.65 costs or two months’ imprisonment was imposed. The case against Captain John Hughes was ad- journel until to-morrow, owing to the witness snbpeenaed for the prosecution appearing in court in such a drunken condition that the Magistrate refused to allow him to give evidence. A young James Savidant, charg- e4 with maliciously injuring the pro- perty of Dodd <& Kogers, Queen Street, was remanded for eight days. It secs that Savidant, in company with an- other lad named Hughes, was caught on top of the building cutting off lead.

Lonpox, Oct. 25.—The Chronicle’s Constantinople correspondent telegraphs that more arrests have been made of mem- bers of the Young Turkey party. A count made on September 20th shows that 108,598 pedestrians and 21,546 ve- hicles passed over London bridge in twen- ty-four hours. Over the new Tower bridge, built to relieve the London bridge traffic, there passed 25,255 pedestrians and 8,751 vehicles, making a total of 133,853 pedestrians and 30,379 vehicles, or at the rate of 5,577 pedestrians and 1,266 ve- hicles per hour.
