Two of the grenades were thrown into the flame and had the eflect of quickly smothering it out. More tar and oil were poured on and again lighted, one grenade being sufficient to extinguish the flame. The box was then turned upside down and the fire lighted under it. Two of the grenades were applied and put the fire com- pletely out. The test was wholly satis- factory to those who witnessed it. The inch board stuff in the box was deeply charred, showing that the flame had reached consider- able volume before the grenades were applied. The grenades consists of a glass globe weigh- ing one pound, filled with a chemical fluid highly saturated with and generating in fire heat an immense volume of fire-extinguishing gas, in which it is said to be impossible for combustion to continue. The fluid itself is perfectly harmless to person or clothing. It is claimed to be specially valuable for factories or warehouses where a full insurance is not
