SUMMER OUTINGS by Wendell MacKay

Seventeen members and guests gathered at the house of Jean and Nendall MacKay at Stanley Bridge on September 15th, 1990 for a potluck supper and woodsy stroll,(and'trailer drive) through some pungent spruce trails along the Stanley River. The weather was threatening but the rain held off long enough for all to enjoy a sumptuous outdoor feast. Everyone helped setting up tables and dispensing food and, when the meal was over, getting everything inside before the rains came. Then it was inside for a relaxed interlude of conversation and fellowship.

On display for the members and guests to admire was an enlarged print of Sharen Labchuk's first place winning slide in the Society's 1990 slide competition which has been presented to the Society. Also on display was a copy of the new space image of Prince Edward Island taken by a LANDSAT orbiting satellite-from 700 kilometers in space.

Our two guests, Mr. and Mrs. Moss from New England, friends of Charles and Elinore Keuper, were delighted participants in the days activities and, when the evening ended, everyone felt they were our friends too. '

The Society's two summer outings - at the Noottons in July, and at the MacKays in September - were thoroughly enjoyable and all those who participated in them felt they were both socially and recreationally worthwhile.

NOTICE OF CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS by Wendell MacKay

Mr. Nendall Mackay hereby gives notice that at the next annual meeting of the Natural History Society of Prince Edward Island he will ask leave to introduce.arresolution to amend the constitution in the following manner and particulars to wit:

1. Section 4b of article VII, relatin to the duties of the Treasurer, now reads as follows: The treasurer shall (b) deposit all money and negotiable instruments to the credit of the Society in a chartered bank or credit union in Prince Edward Island.

It is proposed to amend the section to read “in a chartered bank or other financial institution in the province approved by the Executive Council.P

‘2. Article XIV, relating to the Audit Committee, presently reads in part, "An Audit Committee of two (2) members in good standing shall be appointed at the general meeting of the Society next preceding the annual meeting... (and continuing). .

It is proposed to amend Article XIV so that the phrase "who are not members of the Executive Council" shall be inserted between the words "standing" and "shall" in the first line thereof. The article would then read in part "An audit committee of two (2) members in good standing, who are not members of the Executive Council, shall be appointed... (and continuing).

3. Article XV, relating to amendments to the Constitution, presently requires that amendments may be introduced by resolution at a monthly meeting provided that due and proper notice is given in writing to the membership at least twenty one (21) days before that meeting... (and continuing).

The problem with the above part of article XV is that under article XI, relating to meetings, there are no "monthly" meetings. Article XI speaks only of "annual" and "general" meetings, and requires that general meetings be held at least four (4) times during the year. (A similar problem arises in section 5
