promote such important organizations as CIMN, the X- Press, and the yearbook to more students.

2. I would like to see CIMN gets its open air licence, and will do all I can to make sure that happens. I would also like to work towards the incorporation of the X-Press, and help maintain the smooth running of the yearbook. Another goal of mine will be to develop a good relationship with the people at Student Services and the other people involved with the Student Union. most importantly though, I would like to provide reliable representation to the students of UPEI and make sure that their concerns are heard.

5. The relationship between CIMN and the X-Press, and the Student Union is a very important one, mainly in the way that the three organizations work together to keep students informed about major concerns and issues.

6. I shall work to keep the Student Council and rest of the Student Union informed of what I am doing by attending regular Council meetings and weekly executive meetings, and also through daily interaction with other council and executive members.

5. CIMN and X-Press are two important suborganizations —

within the student union. The UPEI Student Union pro- vides funding for their operating budgets. Both groups involve active students, while SU consists of students working for the remainder or university students. CIMN and X-Press are concerned about university and student

issues and form a close relationship with the campus community. 6. -- Prepare a report(s) for each meeting

-- Publish a newsletter in X-Press (for student’s interest)

4. I think that the UPEI SU’s lobbying with government is very important. Our objectives shouldbe such that we work towards setting up guidelines about block funding. That way UPEI can be assured X dollars in funding. Also work on lobbying about student loans. Since CIBC has the loans for a4 year contract it might be an idea to start approaching other banks to try and convince them to apply for the contract.

1. I believe the position of V.P.E. will have an important role in the up coming 12 months, and that more emphasis needs to be put on lobbying then there has been in the past. 2. My objectives will bea four tiered approach to lobbying: the federal government, the provincia! government, the community, and educating students 01 policy effects. This will hopefully keep education affordab!. and accessible. 4. Lobbying is very important, and should be the number one priority of the V.P.E. We should be trying to keep education affordable and accessible.

6. | would use some of the time spent during office hours to contact other student councillors. That way they would be better informed and prepared for council meetings which are held bi-weekly. Meeting time could then be better used to discuss policy, rather than just being an informative session.

I would have liked to be when I came a few years ago -- full of school spirit and drive. Hills and barriers in the student society are then easily overcome once the bulldozer is full of gas and has momentum. (how about that analogy)

c) I want to teach the student body with their problems and concerns how to use the Student Union, then dust it off and lobby like hell for them.

2. If elected I do have some specific goals for myself and

the Union and the major ones are as follows: I will not only

do the job well but take the initiative to go beyond, looking

for problems to fix rather than stumbling upon them. This

is a goal I WILL meet. [ will work in every aspect towards

reducing the apathy on campus. (and wow is it bad) I believe

we have our foot in the door for student evaluations but we

must push further to promote and increase their effective-

ness each year until they are regular and useful published

occurrence. I want to make sure the STUDENT voice is

heard and then lobby (effectively) to work towards our

goals as a student body. To increase the effectiveness of lobbying in a useful way and promoting an image to the

community is a pet goal of mine.

4. Being a candidate for VPE I feel lobbying the govern-

ment is extremely important for the student body. My short term goal is to increase the effectiveness of itand then work

towards projects for the student population. All to often

students approach the government with assertions and demands students with no justification for themselves. In

a time of drastic cutbacks we can not simply assert the solicitation of funds. we must do a number of things when

lobbying. Weare fighting a war with health care and social services every time we ask for something as they are being cut as much as us. We must work WITH the government and prove to them why we deserve their support. We can do this in ways such as turning to the community with help instead of asking for it. we must be a community that is giving to the society around us if we are to ask for something from it. It is imperative to create a positive image for ourselves, and paint a prettier picture. No one can stop Mr. Martin with nagging alone but we can make him aware and work toward a better financial future as students with cooperation, understanding, non-monetary contribu- tions, and a lot of nagging.

6. Anyone who thinks their isn’t a sufficient means of communication at our university is fooling themselves. The obvious methods available to us such as the X-Press, E-mail, meetings, the phone and other things are quite sufficient. any problems arising with communication are simply caused by a lack of it. My answer to this question of how I will keep them informed is simply, “I will actually do it.” One thing I will mention at this time is the gross misuse of the Student Union reps, or non-existence of them. The reps are currently not accountable at all for the communication between the Union and the students. Since
