Longevity Candidates

Wlnsloe‘a grand old veterans, Mr. and Mrs. George Auld are both in their 93rd year. This fine old cou- ple are hale and hearty, and only recently Mr. Auid drove his own auto to Charlottetown to do a bit of shopping.

When over eighty he shingled the local Manse when help was hard to come ‘by.

Despite his ninety-three years he can get about like most youngsters of seventy. and still enjoys life and a good joke. He was born and brought up on a farm at Covchead removing to l/l/‘insioe some years 3E0.

llis wife was formerly Charlotte Hughes, also a resident of Cove- head. Their recipe for a long and happy life is sane living with plenty of work. One son runs a general store at Brackley Point. Another, a former school teacher, is at present farming the family homestead at Winsioe.

Mrs. Auid comes from s I0ng-‘ lived Tamil)’. her sister. Mrs. Uriah Mathews. lived to be one hundred years old. She gave birth to nine children without benefit of doctors. and a century of living failed to put a single gray hair in her head.

MR. ANGUS CAMERON

Ninety-year-oid Ansua Cameron of Clyde River is still going strong despite a fine old age. This past fall he slowed up s bit, and did not pick quite as many spuds as he had done in other years. But his

friends and neighbors, whq (mg-h; to know something about the man, told this scribe that as late as two years ago Mr. Cameron could do a man's sized job about the farm, r. Cameron was twice n15rr|gd_ st to Lillian lvlacLean, who bore him five daughters. namely: tha) Mrs. D. E. Wood, Somervliie. ass; (Flora) Mrs. Dryal hlacRae; (Gladys) Mrs. Temple, Maine, U. S. A4 (Lillian) Mrs. George Lewis, East Royalty; (Mary) Mrs. Kenneth MacNeil, Clyde River. l-lis second wife, Elizabeth Mac- Neil of Clyde River, died about sev- en years ago. To this union were born three sons, William, James and Jock, all living at Clyde River. Angus Cameron lived for some years in Boston, before he was mar- ried. But the love of the Island brought him back to become a tiller of its fertile acres. l-Ie settled on the old homestead

and soon earned for himself the reputation of being one of the dis- trict's best farmers.

MR. FRANK SANDEBSON

Mr. Frank Sanderson. North Riv- er's oldest resident, observed his ninety-second birthday on Dec. 11th. Born st North River in the year 1855. the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rob- ert Sanderson. he married Eliza Watts of Hampshire in November of 1895. The wedding was perform- nd at Cornwall by the Rev. Mr. Baker. Methodist Minister of that circuit.

To this union were born six sons. namely: John, Hammond. Frank- lin, Fulton, Miller and Robert Ful- ton, who died when an infant.

John was killed at the battle of Arras, Sept. 3. 1918. ‘at the age of 21 years. John was a member oi’ the old 105th Battalion, but later transferred to the 78th Butt. (Nova Scotia Regiment). All other mem- bers of the family are now living in this Province. including Mrs Sanderson.

Mr. Sanderson spent all his long life on the old homestead. By good management and thrifty practice he developed into one of the district's most successful farmers, his Hero- ford cattle having captured num- erous prizes at_ Provincial and mainland exhibitions during the past quarter ccntury.

MISS ANNIE L. MQcKINNON

Relatives and a. host of friends deeply mourn the death of Miss Annie L. MacKinnon daughter of the late Alexander and Mrs. Mac- Kinnon of New Annan who P9808- fuiiy passed away at the home o. her brother John J. MacKinnon. on November 23rd. Besides her bro- ther John, she is survide by WW sisters, Mary ‘Mrs. Laugh!!!) Gtiiis and Nellie, Mrs. William Gil- iis. both of Cohasset, Mass. One sister and two brothers predeceased her, At sixteen (16) years of age she held a teachers license from Prince o! Wales College and for a number of years taught school 1n this Province and made a success of her chosen profession. She was of a very retiring disposition, loved and revered by all who had the pleasure of her ariqllﬂlﬂiﬁ-"CE- Sh” Was a valued member of the Cath- oiic Women's League, Indian River Subdivision.

Despite the snows of ninety-two Winters, this grand old veteran still gets about and enjoys life, tak- ing more than a passing interest in present day events.

KELLTS CROSS C. W. L. -- The regular monthly meeting of St. Joseph's Subdivision Kelly's Cross C. W. L. was held on Wed- nesday, December 1st and despite inclement weather conditions was well attended The meeting opened with League Prayer by the Char» lain. Father Keefe and was called to order by the president who oc- cupied the chair. Minutes of prev- ious meeting being read and ap- proved was followed by the regular reports. That of the treasure:- proved to be very satisfactory, the funds being well Increased by the old time contest held in November. Father Keefe complimented the C. W. I... ladies on their initiative and general success in their differ- ent activities. 1t was decided to send a donation of $5.00 to the TB. Fund and also to have the statue of the Blessed Vii-sin redecorated at the Monastery of the Precious Blond. It was also decided on to send fruit to two members who are convalescing after an illness.
