Nerth Side Farmer's Union.

The regular weekly meeting of the abuve union, for Lots 44, 45 and 46, took place in the hall of the Union at Black Bush on Friday evening last. There was a large attendance of members, and several new members were duly initiated. After the preliminary business was finished, and some matters relating to the cheese factory were discussed, the subject chosen for de bate, “From which dves the mind gain the more knowledge, reading or observa- tion?’ was opened by Mr. John A. McPheo aud seconded by Mr. Joba Alfred Macdonald. The opener io well chosen words showed the great ad- vattages one has in modern times to gain knowledge, by either reading or observa- tion, but eventually concluded that more knowledge could be obtained by observa tion. ‘The seconder, as well as Messrs. Herman McPhee, Joseph Currie and John McLellan, took the opposite view, while Messrs. F. McInnis and R. McDonald supported the “‘opener.” A vote being taken, it was found that only the four parties who spoke voted for the Reader, the supporters of Observation carrying it almost unanimously.
