Roderick Macaulay, and to impress on the public an erroneous opinion, that the inhabitants of George- town are 'not empowered by Law to elect their Assessors annually, and that the ofﬁcers appointed by the present Assessors cannot legally execute the law. . To guard the public against the insinuations of this inter- ested individual, I would refer them to the Assessment Act, and amendment thereto; and for the information of those who are interested, I have to stator that agreeably to the above named Actjand amendment, :1 public meeting was called by the senior Magistrate, A. Macdonald, Esq., 0n the ﬁrst Tuesday in May, for the purpose of electing Assessors and Fire—Wardens for the present year.
