SU President’s Message

I can hardly believe it is that - of year. The first 3 months have n extremely interesting. We have n making lots of progress internal- is far as making our day to day rations more efficient. We have n doing tons of lobbying on the tical front for our campaign inst high tuition and student debt is. In October we met with Jeff tz, the Minister of Education. We ed him to work towards legislating ition freeze, for the Island Prize ard to be extended to all UPEI dents, and made suggestions for rovements in the CSLP and the lennium Scholarship Foundation. the CFS Conference in Ottawa on y. 21- 25, Caolan Moore (VPCC), k Gaudet (National Executive mber for CFS & Council's BOG )) and myself, got to visit liament Hill. We stopped into | Martin's office for a chat (made a h about the importance of Post- ondary Education) and then we ded off to Prime Minister Jean tien's office and had another great -ussion.

Now that we have all gotten feet wet, we are expecting some jor waves for next semester. There ‘wonderful team working here at Student Union, as well as all the dents that so graciously donate ir valuable time to help us out. I'd e to take this chance to extend the est thanks to all of them. I can estly feel some momentum. build- on campus and that is thanks to ryone!

Health Plan Information

The 2001 - 2002 Medical cards are available to be picked up at the Student Union office. If you've incurred an expense during the period the pay direct system was inactive claim forms can be picked up at the Student Union office and submitted for reimbursement.

If you have any questions regarding your coverage Benefit Plan Booklets and claim forms can be downloaded at www.upeisu.com or you can contact the Health Plan Administrator, Cara Hedefine, at 566- 0530.

Opt-out Cheque Reminder

Please pick up your health plan rebate at the Student Union office if you haven't done so already. Those cheques that aren't picked up before the Christmas break will be sent back to the Accounting Office and credited to your student account prior to the start of second semester.

2001 Nexus Yearbook

If you graduated from UPEI in the spring of 2001 or placed a pre- paid order your yearbook can be picked up at the Student Union office. You can purchase a yearbook for $10.00 at the Student Union office, the Bookstore, or the Yearbook office located in the basement of Main Building.

International Student Identity Cards are issued at the Student Union office. They are free to all full-time UPEI students. Your student ID and passport sized photo required to make the card. If you have any questions call the Student Union at 566-0530.

SU VP Campaigns and Communications’ Message

Time sure flies when your having fun, and we've been having a lot of fun this year. My term is over in four months, and I'm just starting to feel settled in!

This semester I've been run- ning around talking to MPs and MLAs, making sure that they are up to date on student issues. Our big campaign for this year in on lowering tuition fees and increasing accessibil- ity to post-secondary education. This semester I've organized two major campaigns around those issues. Also, I've been working with many wonder- ful people on many different issues. Two awareness weeks to watch for are Aids Awareness week in the last week of November, and Violence Against Women Awareness in the first week of December. Next semester | will continue with the tuition cam- paign, and try to fill the calendar with lots of other fun and important things.

I encourage all of you to get involved this year and | hope to see you around campus. If you have any questions or concerns, or are just looking for someone to talk to, feel free to drop by my office in the Barn, or get in touch with me via phone or email. Take time to relax and enjoy the holiday season.
