Men's Soccer

The UPEI men's soccer panthers are no longer undefeat- ed. The boys suffered a surprising lost over the weekend to Saint Mary's 1-0. A valiant effort was put forth, but the panthers just couldn't get the ball past the Huskies keeper, Jamil Ibrahim, who picked up his third straight shutout.

Currently the boys sit in a tie for third place in the AUS with Dalhousie and share identical records at 4-1-2. Look for the panthers to be on top of their game next week as they travel to UNB for a very important game and then back home on Sunday to host the worst team in the league, Moncton. The charge for playoff positioning is on so get out to the games and support your defending AUS champion pan- thers!

Women's Soccer

The offence of the Huskies was too much for our female pan- thers to handle. The defending AUS champion St. Mary's Huskies trounced UPEI over the weekend 4-0. This was only the second win this season for St. Mary's and they may have surprised the panthers by catch- ing them flat footed. The win bumped the Huskies above our panthers in the standing, and our girls now sit at the bottom of the division in a cluttered tie for sixth.

However, the girls have a fairly easy schedule ahead of them as they face UNB, UDM, and MUN, three teams that are all struggling this year with records under five-hundred. If the girls can pull out these wins they will be in good shape for a playoff spot. The women's panthers need

Women's Field Hockey

It would seem that our

women's field hockey team may -

have some competition for the AUS crown this year. St. Mary's has looked very impressive in their first four games of the sea- son vs. UNB. Granted the Reds haven't won a game this season, but in the four games these two teams have played so far, St. Mary's has out scored them 21-1. Their most recent match last weekend saw St. Mary's grab UNB by the balls from the very start and did not let go beating the absolute shit out of them 11-0!

The panthers have a strong team this year and we can basically count out UNB for any chance of advancing this year but it should be a great match up next weekend as the panthers host the defending AUS champion Huskies.

As for the upcoming week- end, the girls are off to polish up on their skills in New Brunswick as they face UNB. Since the Reds have only managed to score one goal in their first six games, | wouldn't expect their confidence levels to be through the roof.

Look for goaltending superstar, Ambyr Gallant to hold down the fort, and look for her third and fourth consecutive shutouts of the year.

of the week goes to Jon Vos. A product of Charlottetown, Jon combines his leadership qualities, strong defensive pres- ence and offen- sive playmaking abilities to lead the panthers this year. Team captain, AUS

Female

On the women's side, first time recipi- ent Melissa Campbell takes home the honor of female ath- lete of the week. Melissa is a rookie sen- sation from Charlottetown Rural high school. This 5'5" sweeper was instrumen- tal in helping the panthers in their 1-1 tie with Mt. Allison last week as she was named player of the game.
