The gist of the Premier's state- ment at Georgetown was that the ‘lies Government deliberately neg- lected to fund their overdraft in the ., spring of 1931 because of the public 4 indignation which they feared would be aroused when the staggering amount of their bank borrowings be- came known, and that their political manoeuvering at that time caused a loss of thousands of dollars to tho Province by reason of the subse- auent rise in bond interest rates. This charge is not new, as our con- temporary seeks to imply. It has been made at every session of the Legislature since the Lea Govern- ment was defeated, and it has never been satisfactorily answered. In fact, it was corroborated by Mr. Lea himself in s remarkable passage of arms which took place between him and the present Premier on March ll, 1993.
