Deatu or a VatuarnLte Cow.—The noted Jersey cow, Princess 2nd, belonging to the estate of the late Mr. Shoemaker, Balti- more, Md,, died August 12th, it is stated, from a disease of the lungs. Her late owner paid $4,800 for her at a public sale in New York city on May 10, 1882. She made a record of 46 lbs. 123 oz. of butter during the week begun 22nd of last February.

THE mortuary statisttes for July of the priacipal cities of Canada have been printed. The death rate is as follows; Montreai, 697; Toronto, 204; Quebec, 253; Hamilton, 69; Holifax, 5?; Winnipeg, 26; Ottawa, 85; St. John, 46; Kingston, 34 In Montreal the deaths were more namerous than for the cor- responding month last year, and 125 greater than in June of the present year. The un- usual mortality is due entirely to the outbreak of smallepox, there being fifty-two deaths from this disease during the month.
