it points out further that the happiest and most contented elder- ly men and women are the ones who are doing some useful work whether or not they need the money and who take an active interest in the affairs about them and in the world in general.
"Activity, usefulness, the ability to make friends and to have fun, and. above all, 9. sense of purpose in life. form a bulwark against the hopelessnes that can make retire- ment is time of tragedy." Getting ready for the retirement period before retirement age is reached is the big secret of living a happy useful life in the days to come.
How reaching retirement age should be mat is the final advice of the booklet:
1. A regular income or other financial resources sufficient to provide independence and B. sense of security.
2. An occupation. evocation. or absorbing hobby that agrees with the likes and ability, physical and
' mental.
3. A pleasant place to live which will not put a strain on health. pocket book or emotions.
4. A feeling of being useful through personal or community service.
5. The conservation of health.
8. A positive attitude toward self. others and the world.

Garden flowers banked the altar of Scarnoro United Church re- cently for the candlelight wedding of Agnes Elizabeth (Elsie), eldest daughter of Mr. and M.ra. Andrew Gitfen of Okotoks, Alberta, and Mr. Frederick Bharam of Calgary, old. est son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Sharam of Murray Harbour, Prince Edward Island.
Rev. Dr. S. J. Parsons performed the ceremony in which the bride was given in marriage by her is- ther.
White chantilly lace fashioned the bride's floor length gown; fea- turing a snugly fitted bodice, long sleeves and peter pan collar. Her chapel veil mistod from a headpiece of pearls, and she canted a. colon- ial bouquet of dark red roses,
Her only ornament was a. neck. lace and earrings of pearls, a gift of the groom.
Mrs. Gordon MacAule.y of Ed- monton was her sister's only at- tendant. As matron ot honour she wore a pale blue net strapless floor length gown modified with a. short sleeveless jacket. She car- ried a. colonial bouquet of orphe- lia rosebuds and wore similar flow- ers in her hair.
Mr. Gunner Hasselbohm acted as groomsman. and the ushers were Mr. Gordon MacAulay of Edmon- ton anci Mr. Nick Chaius of Cal- Kary.
Traditional music by the choir of which the bride is a member was rendered during the ceremony in the singing of "0 Perfect Love,' The Lord's Prayer and the Hebrew Benediction. concluding with "On Father All Creating."
Pastel flowers, white tapers and the wedding cake decorated the bride's table at the reception at the Horshoe Inn.
The bride's mother and father assisted the bridal couple in receiv- ing the guests. The toast to the bride was proposed by Mr. George Bell of Edmonton and was ably responded to by the groom,
Later Mr. and Mrs. Sharam lert for a trip to Waterton Lakes Park. Glacier National Park and Great Falls, the bride wearing a. rasp- berry wool suit with top coat of bisque-blond and contrasting ac- cessories. A corsage of pink roses completed her ensemble.
Upon their return Mr. and Mrs. Sharam will reside in Calgary. The out of town guests were. Mrs. L. Mashinter, Streetsvilie, Ont., Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gitfen. Elmvillc.
