Exhibitions.

We are in receipt of Prize Lists for the Exhibitions to be held in Montreal on the 14th September, in Georgetown on the 80th September, and Charlottetown on the 13th Ooctober. ‘The lists for the Exhibi-

tions to be held in Summerside and St.

John are not yet to hand.

Preparations for the Montreal Exhibition are now well advanced; and, it is said that the applications made for space by exhibitors n so numerous that the Committee d upon selling some of the best Leading

have bee have decide sites on the ground by auction. exhibitors and citizens of Montreal have ‘*eome down handsomely ;’ and many new and interesting features will be introduced in connection with the Exhibitien. There will bea Lacrosse tournament, a torpede exhibition in the harbor, a grand regatta, Caledonia games, baloon ascensions, grand military concert, horse racing and many other attractions for the crowd which will throng Montreal on the occasion. The Advisory Board appointed by our Local Government, have, we are glad te learn, decided to offer handsome prizes for the best specimens of the produce of Island farms and [sland fisheries to be forwarded to this exhibition. Several horses and some cattle will be sent by the Stock Farm Commissioners. Altogether we have little doubt that the Island Produces will make a favorable impression in the Emporium of Canada. ‘The exhibition of our fish should bave a good practical result. Ontario and Quebec consume at all times, large quanti- ties of fish ; and we think we should have a share in the business of supplying them. We hope this portion ef our ‘ exhibit” at Montreal will receive special attention. Our fish have a better right to the markets of the Upper Provinces, than the inferior article which those Provinces now procure from the United States. e

The Commissioners for the King’s Coun- ty Exhibition have issued the following regulations :—

l. Che Cattle Show will be held on Kent Square, an. Exhibition in the Drill Shed, Cieorgetown, on Thursday, the 30th Septem- ber, 1830.

¥, ENTRANCE PRES To CATTLE show, — Horses, 25 cents each ; cows, 25 cents each ; calves, 10 vents each; pigs, 10 cents each ; pen of 3 pigs, 10 cents ; sheep, 10 cents each ; pen of 3 sheep, 10 cents. Tickets of admis- sion to Drill shed, 12 cents.

3. All acricultural and horticultural pre- ducts must be the growth of the present year.

4. Allentries for the cattle show must be made at the Secretary’s office, at cr before 11] o'clock, a. m., on Thursday, the 30th day of September next.

5. Articles for the Exhibition will be re- ceived at the Drili Shed, from 3 o'clock, p. m., on Wednesday, the 20th day of Septem- ber, until }0 o'clock, 4. m., on Thursday, the 30th day of September; and the live stock must be on the Uattle Show greunds at 11} o'clock, neon, September 30th.

6. Returi tickets will be issued at one fare from the railway offices along the line.

7. Cattle, sheep, pigs, &c., will be convey- ed to Georgetown at half the usual charges.

8. Live steck a@d manufactured articles, having already received three first prizes, shall not be allowed to cempete at this exhi bition.

9. Exhibiters are particularly requested to take notice, that it is absolutely necessary, and positively required, that all entries be made on vr before the time above specified, in order to afford the Judges sufficient time for the dis- charge of their duties.

The Prize List for the Exhibition is fair- ly well arranged. In some instances the prizes offered are larger than those offered ed in Queen’s Ceunty. But the Commis- sioners lia\e, in our opinien, again fallen into the common error of distributing their small fund over too wide a field. If the prizes offered were fewer, higher, and con- centrated 1\pon articles the production of which it is especiaily desirable to encourage, the interest of the exhibiton would be kept up, a better class of articles would be shown, and there would be less discontent among exh biters. But as it is, the King’s County Commissioners offer attractive prizes, and the Exhibition will, doubtless, bd well patronized by the people of King’s County. We look, too, to see a healthy interest shown in this Exhibition by the: people of ()ueen’s and Prince Counties.

Respecting Queen's County Exhibition we shall have semething to say in a future tasue.

To the Lobster Trade.

We regret very much to learn that private cable advices have been received in this city to the effect that a quantity of lobsters received in London, bearing well- known island brands, has proved to be ** trash.” Should any neglect or fraud on the part o packers here have the effect of damaging the character of the Island lobs- ter in the Nuropean market, it will be fatal to this flourishing and lucrative trade ; and we earnest!y hope that all concerned in the business will be careful and honest. It is also to be hoped that the names of the careless or fraudulent wiil be ferreted out and exposed.

Latest News Notes.

The Q. M. O. & O. Railway has added 500 new freight cars to its relling stock, all being manufactured in Canada.

A well authenticated case of Tannerism is reported from Georgia, where a corpulent man name. McKnight persistingly abstain- ed from food for sixty days. He finally died from the effects of his long fast.

There are at Montreal, at present, 60 sea-going vessels in port, all busy loading or discharging their cargoes. Of those vessels 28 are ocean steamers, the largest uumber ever known to be in the harbor at one time.

Mr. Fawcett, the English Postmaster General, amongst the many reforms he is about to make in the Post Office depart- ment, meditates introducing one with regard to newspapers, and will prebably make the? Post Oftices a medium for collecting sub- scriptions and advertisements thereto.

The Eritish Board of Trade returns for July show that the total value of exports was £20,270,570, against £16,611,122 for the same time last year, and the value of the imports for July £33,352,595, against £30, - 186,072 for the same month last year.

The following shows the approximate strength of the entire forces in Afghanistan during the past month: Cabul field force, First and Second Divisions, 12,668 ; Third Division, 6,907; Khyler line force, 16,000 ,

Khorum force, 8,576, Candahar force, 11,363. ‘Total strength of forces, 55,520.

He has formed a strong company and will hereafter take an active interest in its management. Mr. Tasse will not of course sever his con- nexion with Ottawa and will continue the publication of Le Canadian.

The Agamemnon, a new doubie-screw iron armour-plated turret ship of 8,942 tons

launched at Chatham dockyard, is being pushed forward as rapidly as possible, the men working night and day en board to complete her equipment. Other vessels at the same yard are expediting their fitting out with equal energy. —
