WANTED—A SUMMER HOTEL!

Tifis is the cry of the tourist in Prince Edward Island. It is not stated that the hotels here are not good. On the con- trary, we have repeatedly heard the lead ing hotels highly spoken of, and in respect ta the bills of fare favorably compared with the best hotels of Halifax and other cities. But there is, undoubtedly, & want of sufficient hLotel accommodatien in the tourist season and a want of some of the appliances and luxuries found i» the first class hotels in which wealthy tourists are accustomed to put up. It is argued, too, that if a first-class hotel were erected upon @ convenient site at the water side, in or close to Charlottetown, the volume of tourist travel would be greatly enlarged. We learn that passengera by the Boston and other steamers were recently, as in former years, compelled to sleep and eat on board while in Charlottetown, because they could not obtain rooms at the hotels or were dissatisfied with the accommoda- tion afforded.These people will, of course, relate their experience to everyone they meet, and the result is a diminutivo of tourist travel, whereas they would stay here, and spend their money, and enjoy the invigorating air and the beauties of the place, and bring their friends with them ext year, if only sufficient and satisfac tory hotel accommodation were provided. A summer hotel in Charlottetown onght, eertainly, to be convenient to boats and bathing houses, so that its guests may easily have the use of our beantiful harbor as well of our as town and coun- try. We hope to see a new and success- ful movernent made this year towards the erection, establishment and management

As a matter of fact our missionaries in China are known the world over for their linguistic abilities. Every interpreter in the United States legation in China has been, until Minister Denby’s administration, a missionary. The greatest authorities we have on Chinese- English are Americans. All our treaties with China have been drawn up by Amer- ican missionaries.

Wixyieec, Aug. 28.—Mr. James Cham- bers, of Ingersoll, ene of the prominent horse judges at the recent Winnipeg In- dustria! Exhibition, returned yesterday from a visit to his three sons, who are on farms pear Wawanesa. Speaking to a reporter about the crops, Mr. Chambers said that wherever he had been they were simply magnificent and the best be had ever seen. He did not believe the various estimates given outof from 25 to 29 bushels per acre would nearly cover the crops he had seen, and thought 40 would be nearer the mark. Mr. Chambers did not believe any damage had been done by frost, and it is safe from any such danger now, as the cutting is practically over at Wawanesa.

Everywhere receptions are being held and the Sir Knight who were venturesome enough to attend them all would find him- self heavily laden with souvenirs. The grand encampment are all busy to-night preparing for to-morrow’s election of officers and private meetings for consult- ation are frequent.

The weather all day has been clear. It is warm, but it has been a fine day never-

theless, and has been especially enjoyed by those who have participated in the many excursions of the day The streets are still thronged with people. It has become the proper thing for the commandery that happens to have a fine band to visit the various headquarters and serenade its fellow Sir Knight», and all day long and allthe evening music has filled the air. Loypon, August 28.—A despatch from Constantinople to the Pall Mall Gazette confirms the statement previously cabled that the Porte has complained to France and Russia of England’s attitude in regard to Armenia. The Gazette’s despatch adds that the despatch sent by the Sultan to French and Russian diplomates bitterly complains that Great Hritain’s discour- teous and unseemly attitude is derogatory to the prestige of the Sultan. He therefore appeals to Russia and France to use their good offices to induce Great Britain to modify her attitude. Lexincron, Ky., August 28.—A peculiar triple wedding occurred in Pike county on Friday. The contracting parties were Levi Thornberry, eighty-one vears of age, and Mrs. Linda Fiddlouk, a widow, eighty years of age, this being the sixth marriage of each, the Rev. Samuel Ray, sixty-seven years of age, to Miss Martha Lowe, aged sixty years, and Trimble Leslie, twenty years of age, to Miss Emma Weddington, fourteen years of age.

To-day the party visited the Indian reserve about Edmonton, and to-night the Premier was tendered a public reception, the address being present- ed by the town Council of Edmonton and the board of trade.
