H. L. Sear Rink Takes Lead As S’Side Curling Club Bonspiel Opens

‘llhe first annual Summer-side Curling club bonspiel got off to a good start yesterday with all (he 26 teams entered playing one round and some of them com- pleting two rounds of play. The ibonapiel concludes this evenim with the presentation of prizes at nine o'clock. The H. L. Sea: rink of Charlottetown was leading in points last night among the 13 rinks that had played two rounds with 2'76. J. A. Clark of Summer- side was second with 232 and I. S. Matthews, Alberton third with 218.

The ice was in splendid condi- lion. the play of a high standard and the gawes keenly contested. The N. J. Anderson rink of Char- lottetown, which had the highest score so far in the first round of 150, was upset in the second round by the J. A. Clark rink of Smtnmerside. The reason that some second round games were played before the first round was completed was that the mainland teams did not arrive till last eve- ning and their first games were not played till late.

The competition is being run on a points system with the points being alwarded as follows: game won, 50 points; each end won, l0 points; each point in the margin by which a game is-won, 2 points: each point scored in an end of five or more points, l point, game won by default, 90 points.

Each rink plays three games but the six rinks that win the first two games will be entered against each other in the third and final round so that these three games will be the de- ciding ones of the competition. A game lost in the first two rounds almost automatically puts a (earn out of the running.

New Bonus Players Rule Interpreted

CINCINNATI, March i9 - (AP) - The current crop of major leg- gue baseball's high-priced boys, commonly known as bonus players, won't get a year of minor league seasoning after all,

In an interpretation of the bonus rule change, voted by major 19g. gue owners, Walter W. Mulbry, secretary-treasurer of baseball, said today that the optioning of bonus players during their first year will EDP]? 001V t0 those signed after March 3i.

When the office of baseball com- missioner A. B.
