It is difficult to understand how a team can finish second in a league and be allowed to challenge for the championship but not be al‘owed to challenge for the title if they finish in a tie for top spot. _

Jack Kane's Saints went into a game against UNB Friday night leading the Maritime Conference with 24 points. UNB and St. Thomas Tommie; were tied for second place with 22 points. but the Red Devils bad a game in hand on the Tommies.

The Island's Saints lost 6-3 to UNB but came back with a

‘ ' ' Saturday afternoon. The . in the meantime. wound up their schedule ted. posting an easy 6-0 win over Mount Allison Un- iversity Saturday night. (The Red Devils had won a 5-3 over- 'me game against SDU in Fredericton in the teams only other meeting this season.)

With all Conference games completed UNB and St. Dun- stan's were tied for first place with 26 points and the Tomlmies were definitely out of the picture with only 22 points.

No provisions were made in the league cornstitution as to what would happen if a first place tie resulted at the end of regular league play. a second place team had defeated a team finishing first in the rink of the first place team. the second place team was eligable to ohallenge for the crown.

The Conference executive declared a special ruling Sun- day night. giving UNB the crown because of their two regular conference wins over t.he Islanders.

There ittle ' the Saints.-They have the balance a to be champs and have considerable bench strength in case of injuries. We fail to see however, any just- ification in the decision that two teams can f ish a season in the same Conference with the same number of wins and losses and one win the title on a ruling thaaddid not exist until the final

drew to the four o'clock mark on the eight-foot circle. The Manitoba foursome drew to the 5 o'clock mark of the 12-foot circles for the number three stone. Art Burke then cllmaxed a spine-tingling game as he drew to the 12 o'clock mark of the eight-foot circle to win the game 11-9.
