At Schwelm a few days ago ten lads, aged from 11 to 19, were charged with a series of burglaries and bhighroad robberies for miles around. It appears that they had been excited by their common study of the ‘‘shudder’’ romance ‘‘Schinderhannes’’ to consti- tute themselves into a band of robbers. Each youth had adopted a robber’s name, asthe Black Wolf, Antony Bear’s Heart, Iron Fist, Sly Fox, Falcon’s Eye, and the like. Every member of the band was sworn to loyalty upon the dagger and the revolver of ‘‘the chief.’’ The band, happily, had only four revolvers among the ten, and these were dis- charged at the police who tracked them to their ‘‘cave,’’ though without hurt to the officers of the law. No fewer than 70 keys were found in their porses- Hou.
