Seven Cubs were present at the last meeting. This pack, although small, are making rapid progress under the leadership of Mrs. R. C. Parent and Mrs. Preston MacLcan. Instructions in knot tying was giv- en, after which scout games were played.

Twelve scouts were present and the usual scout program was carried out.

Baptist and. St. Paula

Baptist and St. Paul's Troop held a Joint meeting Monday night and there was a good turnout of scouts, the study period was taken up on rope work after which relay race, crown and crones, and tug oi war were played.

Rovers

This is an organization for older scouts. Two patrols were organized with the two Rover mates. Malt- land Owen and Lorne Callback. Oth- scouts present were William Bur- nett, Niall Burnett, John Denny, Robt. Beer, Carl Vinnlcombc, Char- les Batt, Lloyd Williams, Don Stew- art, also William Warren, Assistant Prov. Scout Commissioner, and R. C. Parent, Prov. Scout Secy. Mr. R. C. Parent was elected Temporary Rov- er Leader.

These boys have to be Rovers three months before being, invested into this branch of scouting.

AFTON ROAD SCHOOL

The semi-annual examination of Afton Road School was held on Monday, Dec. 21st, 1931, with about 35 visitors present. The’ teacher was assisted in taking the lessons by Miss Marie O'Brien, Mrs. L. Lund. Miss Eunice Lund and Miss Mary Lund.

After the examination a short but enjoyable program was held. Then a few pleasant remarks were heard from the visitors.

The examination closed with the singing of the National Anthem.

This has been the great work oi the British and For- eign Bible Society, in whose ac- tivities are united two great streams —the currents oi nationalism and oi universalism.

"The Bible," Dr. Ramsay declar- ed, "suits and has informed the spirit of the Anglo Saxon race more perfectly than any other since New Testament days. Our love of liberty, our sense oi humail worth, our emphasis upon justice and fair play, are at least in part to be at- tributed to the Bible. And it is fit- ting that the race and Empire which have in Divine Providence spread so widely over the earth should carry with it for the ben- efit of other races the secret oi its own eminence."

Reference was then made by the speaker to the influence of the Bible upon the life of China, India and other non-Christian countries.

Following Dr. Ramsay's address a prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. Vincent. The chairman then called upon Mr. J. F. Whear, Secretary of the Charlottetown Branch oi the Society, for his report and minutes of lust meeting. The adoption oi the report which appears below was moved by Mr. C. H. Black and seconded by Rev. H. D. Raymond.

Special Session 0i Legislature To Be Called to Repeal Present Act.

IIEE-SNGFORS, Finland, Jan. 0 —(A.P.)—-The repeal of prohibition in Finland may come within the next few months as a result of the calling of a special session of the Legislature to act on the outcome oi last week's referendum.

In calling the Diet together the Cabinet's order said "speedy renew- al of alcohol legislation is urgently required, the referendum having clearly shown that the prohibition law has not that support among the nation which its upholdng would demand."

The diet must sit until the mat- ter for which it has been called is finally settled and the process is not expected to take longer than April. Final count of the referend- ub ballots gave 545,413 for appeal, 217,112 for retention and 10,935 for modification.

Log Chateau Damages $20,000

LUCERNE. Que, Jan. 6—(By The Canadian Press)—The roof and some of the furnishings of the Log Chateau of the Lucerne-in-Quebeo Community Association suffered damages estimated at $20,000 in an early morning fire yesterday. Some 40 guests were asleep in the Chateau at. the time, some aided the firefighters in removing valu- able furniture from the main hall while others slept through undis- turbed. The Seigniory Club fire rangers fought the‘ outbreak fur seven hours before extinguishing it. There were no injuries.
