His address, the closing banquet of. the party's policy conference also asked party members to judgehis political leadership on what he helped do to increase unity and well- being, not on day-to-day con- flicts and controversies.

Mr. Pearson alluded only briefly to the economic policy controversy which marked the second day of the conference. He gave: recognition to both sides by saying:
