Islander Dies In Vancouver

Word has been received by John J. MacLeo-d. Breadalbane. of the passing of his cousin W. Scott MacLeod at Vancouver, B. C. on November f‘. ‘

He was a son of the .- Philip and Anne (MacDonald) MacLeod of Bedeque, P.E.I.

M-r. MacLeod lived in Char- Iottctown for a number of year; before moving to Vancouver. H'. was a veteran of World War I.

Left to mourn his passing is a sister, Mrs. Bain of Waltham. Mass. His wife predeceased him four years ago.

The funeral and interment took place in Vancouver

Miss Wilson is the Canadian Federation of University Women

home of Mrs. J. E. Burnett and

was presided over by the presi- dent, Miss Helen Yeo. The guest speaker was introduced by Mrs. L. Lothian.

Miss Wilson’s speech was con- sidered to be of great value in achieving a closer link between the local club and Canadian Federation of University Wo— men.

The first purpose of CFUW is to develop high standards of education in Canada, and to encourage advanced study and research for women. The com- mittee on education carries out this purpose, while the fellow- ship committee awards five fel- lowships yearly, having a total value of $8,500.00.

A second purpose of CFUW is to arouse amongst members an interest in public affairs in poli- tical, social and cultural fields and encourage an active partici- pation of qualified women in such affairs. The Libraries and crea- tive arts committee is one com- mittee working in the cultural field.

The third aimis to guard and improve the economic, legal and professional status of Canadian Women. On: committee fulfuiling this purpose is the status of women committee. Specific effort was made in regard to the Es-

The fourth aim is to faciliate understanding and cooperation among university women nation- ally and internationally, irrespec- tive of race, religion or political opinions.

Miss Wilson also emphasized the responsibility of the university graduate to other women, and that she should give leadership in educational. political and cul- tural fields

Mrs. W.G. Hogg, Jr.. thunked Miss Wilson on behalf of the club members. Following the meeting the group had an op- portunity to talk to Miss Wilson while coffee was served.
