As they neared Saint Dunstans Paul and Hen- n-essey worked their way to the front and gradually opened up a {to-yard lead. Nearing I-Iighfleld llennessey who had matched Paul stride for stride was overcome by. a cramp and it was quits for him.

Around Highfteld and into North River Road Paul gradually increas- ed his margin. At Gates‘ Mills Johnny Shepherd had moved into second place alone with Wallie dropping back. All the way in North River Road the first three runners kept the same distance apart. As they rotinded the Willow Corner Paul still had his com- manding lead with only three quarters of a mile to 2o but then shepherd put on his drive. Paul was tirinR fast and it was all over once Shepherd took over the lead. Finishing fourth was Russell Doyle. Ben Buffett was tiff-h. Har- nltl Rose sixth and the 58-year-old hlason. far back. wound up in seventh place.

Last night's ten-mile road race proved to be highly successful from every angle and promoter Joey Mc- Donald is to be commended on his efforts for staging the affair. It was staged 1n a capable manner by competent officials and the crowd of people that lined the route prov- ad concusively that interrst is still very keen in this type of sport.

Only unfavorable feature of the event was the persistence of some motorists and boys on bicycles .ii sticking rig-ht in front or behind the runntrs. Coming in North River road. before striking the pavement it was particularly bad and the boys must have swallowed a lot of dust and gasoline fumes.
