A farm and premises belonging to the Coughian family at Campbellton, Lot 4, was eold under a mortgage aud purchased by Mr. Sharp, of Summerside. Mr. Sharp brought an action of ejectment against David Cenghlan and his brother who he thought were the oaly parties in possession , This action went by default and a writ of ejectment was placed in Sheriff Gaffoey’s

hands. The sheriff sent up an officer to execute. The officer was resisted aada second force was sent consisting

of deputy sheriff Green, Gregor, Hipenstall, Witham Tbomas and another able~bodied map. These were also resisted and driven oft. They daly reported to Sheriff Gatfaey who became exceedingly wroth aod pro- claimed aloud that the (Jueen’s writ should be executed and forthwith proceeded to summon the yeomen of the country to en- list in his service. Many kunowieg the dangers of the expedition begged off, Others found substitutes, Finally, the fol- lowing conscripts having passed the medical examination etc, were duly en- rolled, armed, and «quipped for the fray. Demand For Iron.

Puitape praia, July 17.—The an= nouncement has been madein shipping circles that thousands of tons of iron ore have been purchased in Newfoundiaud by loca! capitalicts for shipment to this port, to be manufactured iato steel, and tbat already two schooners, with earople cargoes of the ore, are now en route. The German steamer Claudius, with a capacity of nearly 5,000 tons, bas been chartered forthe Newfouudland ore trade. The de- mand for iron and maganese ores for the manufacture of steel is tremendous, and not only are the mines in distant British India and on the Black Sea and Mediter- ranean diatricts being drawnon to supply this demand, but shipments are being made from Rio Janeiro, and other quarters in Brazil. At present there are twenty- six shipments on their way to this port with cargoes of either maganese or iron ore.

Vancouver July 17. — Lieut. Col. Kitson commandant of the Royal Military | school at Kingston, Oot., and Lieut-Col. A.H. Lee, military attach of the British ambassy at Washington have arrived, They go E-quimavh, Victoria, Seattle, San Francisco and other Canadian and American coast points. British defences, including the North Pacific uaval statiou at E-quimalt, will receive a great share of attention, but on the suojeet of their trip to tbecoast poinis both were noncom- mital. Col. Lee is the soldier who watched Cuban war operatious for the British, and it was uncfiicially, though truthfully, re- ported of himtbhat he jumped inte the breach on one oceasion aod led a company of American soldiers against the Span- iards. The colonel’a stay at Banff was made interesting by a large colony of Americans who remembered his gal- Javtry in Cuba and his sympathy for the American soldiers.

Hawirax, July 17.—The Standard Oi] Company’s steamer Maverick arrived ves- terday from New York with two barges in tow. They have on board the equival- ent of 10,000 barre!s of kerosene two land at Halifex and 10,600 more to be towed up the St. Lawrence to Montreal. This is the secord shipment of this kind thie great oil] monopoly has made to Halifax. The tug Lord Stanley is on her way from Quebec to lake the barges round. The Canadian railways lose just this much io freight compared with the system that pre~ vailed before permis-ion wags granted to bring oil in bulk into Canadian ports by steamer.

Isnxopa, Ala., July 16.—Two negroes were killed outright and another fatally shot ina one-sided batile here last night between striking miners and negroes who have been imported to take their places. After the first brush, the firing became general throughout the mining camp. Deputies were summoned tothe scene. Many shots were exchanged after the first three negroes fel!,and itis almost certain that more were hit.
