A despatch to the London Times} from Taaibosch ascribes the successfu | passage of the Vaal River by the ad-| vance guards to Gen Roberts’ strategic redistribution of his front, which com- pletely upset the calculations .of the; Boers, four thousand of whom were ex- | pecting Gen. Hamilton at Engelbach Drift. Meanwhile, the British Mount- ed Troops pushed across to Viljoen’s Drift. ‘The correspondent describes the skirmish which followed this move- ment and which accounted for four cas- ualties mentioned by Gen.- Roberts. This was an affair apparently of only a few minutes. The chief opp ser of the British was Blakc’s Irish Brigade.
