Two crown witnesses were heard in the case of a Tracadie man charged with theft of an automobile. The case was fur- ther adjourned to Monday, Dec- ember 8th.

FORGERY CHARGE

The accused has already plea- ded guilty to a forgery charge. Sentence on this charge was re- manded for one week.

The complaintant in the case is MacNeill Motors of Sum- merside which changes that the accused sold an automobile he had no right to sell. Witnesses heard Monday were James A. MacNeill, owner and president of the Summersid‘e firm, and Angus Gallant of Oyster Bed Bridge, to whom the car was allegedly sold.

OTTAWA ICPI The federal government's program to help municipalities create jobs by going ahead with winter works went into effect Monday.

During the five-month incentive program, expiring next April 30, the government will foot half the direct payroll costs of approved winter works projects and under- taken by municipalities.

Eight provinces are taking part in the program. Quebec and Prince Edward Island have not declared their intentions FURTHER INCENTIVES

Four of the participating prov- inces have added further incen- tives to the municipalities. Man- itoba has offered to pay 30 per cent of the remaining payroll costs. leaving the municipalities

No announcement was made of any project-s already approved for federal payments. It was understood that a number of mu- ni-cipal projects are being proces- sed.

Under the plan. the province must approve the projects before federal participation is sought.

To qualify for federal contribu- tions. winter works must be of a kind not normally undertaken in winter, a slack employment per- iod, and must be designed to cre— ate jobs.

Rev. H. L. Mitton was elected president of the Charlottetown Ministerial Association at the annual meeting of the associa- tion held in the Dominion Build- ing yesterday.

Other ofﬁcers elected for the year 1958-59 were: Rev. W. H. Forsythe, viceupresidont; John Evans, secretary; Rev. T. H. B. Somers, treasurer; Rev. J. H. Bishop. convenor of radio den votional broadcast and Rev. A. E. Piercey. convenor of in- stitution care.
