The lowest record—which is that claimed ty Mr. John Mills, of this aity, on his own veracious statement—is thus uotouched, although Mr. MeKachert's time is very goud.

The County Court st New London was held on Tuesday and Wednesday last. The docket consisted of 112 suits, and a large number of people were ia sttendance. Much interest was manifested in s number of saits brought by the Temperance and General Life losurance Company upon notes given for premiums, which were de- fended on the ground that these notes were obtained by fraudulent misrepresentetion, made by the agenc with rerpset to the terms of insurance Jadgment was re- served in some of these suits, to be de- livered in Charlottetown, and in others it was beld that the evidence was not suf- ficient to auetain this defence. Mr. Me- Quarrie represented the insurance com- pany.

delivered. The lecturer gave a most interesting account of Florida. The ree-urces and natural products of the
country, the culture of oranges and other truit, the methede of agriculture and other sources of industry of the people were fully and clearly described. Its natural scenery, ite rivers and lakes, Savannahs and forests, se well as ite silver springs end sulpburceus walls were portrayed in gluwiogly descriptive language. The manners and custome of the people and their modes of living were also set forth. The condition of the negro before and tince his emancipation was ably treated and bis fotare destiny discussed, The lecture wason the whole » paper of much literary merit, and was highly appreciated by all pre wn’. The proceedings on Friday in the Hous were ot characterized by anything very eventful. Mr. Milis, of Bothwell, com plained about the feee charged by consula) agents on goods exported to the Unitec States, and said that this regulation is no applied, so far as he could learn, to goods shipped from any other country into the United States, and it is not required on the part of the British Government in respect of goods shipped from the United States to Great Britain.
The Minis:er of Finance said it was the practice, as it is considered the best thing to do to “— gteater difficulties on the fruntior, 6 promised to get further in- formation. In reply to Mr. Davies the Min- ister of Public Works said that provision was made for quarantine regulations at Charlottetown.
At the close of the sitting Mr. Foster announced that farther information on the French treaty would be given on Monday.
There is considerable discussion among the members ae the treaty, and the cable- grams from London are attracting a great deal of attention. Many of the Oataiio members are opposed to the provision for admitting French wines, as it will seriously affect the trade in native wines; and the fact has been learned that over 5,000 acres of grapes are grown in the Niagara district.
There also seems to be cor:siderable doubt as to the meaning that will be attached to the admiesion of tresh fish preserved in their nat- ural shape. It is generally believed that can- ned lobsters and m«ckeral will not be admit- ted under the treaty at the minimum duty. The meeting of the Council on Saturday will decide what action the Goverrment will take, but at the present time it is expected that noe thing will be dove this session.
The papers !aid before the House respecting the tunnel borings bring out the fact that Mr. Palmer had no second agreement with the Finance Mivister; and his attempt, by implica tion, to show that such an agreement existed was emphatically Genied by Mr. Foster. Mr. Palmer's great object appears to have been to
