Winnipeg is now

Sbeis the natural centre aod distributing point for the whole North. west, and as ete is likely to have no other competitor for the wholesale trade except the Eastern eities, which will be seriously handicapped because of their distance from che markets, there is no doubt but that ber growth will continue to keep stroke with the-developement of the great country tributary to her; and in this con- nection it would be just as well to point out that there is‘no city in America wbich has so favouratie a situation as a whole- sale centre, wnien is situated in the centre of so fertile a region and bas the possibili ties of maintaiming so secure 3 rural population. Fora distance of 25 miles in every direction there is a stretch of couniry that cannot be surpassed as a mixed farming region by any like stretch of territery on earth.

Now, I might as well say, right here, that the district is not peopled at all. The most of the land is vacant and for sale at a price which a good crop will pay for twice over. The reason why this land has not been settled it is not necessary to go over now; but suffice it to say that, at the preseut | time, land that will grow from 20 to 30; bushels of wheat per acre can be obtained within 15 miles of Winnipeg for from $5

The Report was printed at Tae Examiner office, and the work has been well performed.

Funeral ta1s Arrernooyx.—The funeral of the late Hon. H. J. Callbeck took place this afternoon. The large attendance tes- tified to the regard éntertained for the deceased by persons of all clesees and creeds. The interment was in Sherwood Cemetery.
