SUDBURY. 011%.. Alll- 3-5 blueberry-picking expedition to Mercer Lake, southeast of here, ended last night in the drowninz of Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Mor- gall. both 47, of Monetville, a district village.

Their bodies were found in the lake in 16 feet of water early to- day. Wood stacked for s. fire led relatives to believe the couple had been about to prepare a midnight lunch just befor the drowrfing. A missing tea. pal suggested that one had gone to the lake for outer and had fallen in and that the other was drowned in an at- tempt at rescue.

OTTAWA, Aug. 2—Sorne goods will be cheaper and a few will cast more as the result of a. series of week-end Government moves.

But it is unlikely that the goods will be available on the counters in any greater quantity than they have been.

Buyers of automobiles will ben- efit particularly from the Gov- ernment's action in wiping out or reducing excise taxes. On car's, taxes running pro essively up to 75 per cent. accord g to the price range, were dropped to a flat l0 per cent.

However. the import restrictions —the main factor in cutting down Canadian supplies of many types of food and serviceable articles- still remain.

To conserve United States dol- lars, there is a ccmipiete ban on the import cf such items as jew- elry, candy. novelties, typewriters.

P.E.|. Man Killed In The Yukon

Cpl. Lawrence J. Murray, 30. of the R.C.A.F‘., formerly of New‘ Wiltshlre, P.E.I.. was killed in an automobile accident at Whitehorse. Yukon Territory, his wife, who re- sides at 51 Russell Street. Sum- merslde, was informed yesterday. There were no details. The body is being sent home for burial.

Cpl. Murray sewed with the Royal Canadian Air Force through- out the war, being stationed in various parts of Canada. At the close of hostilities he returned to civilian life but after a couple of months re-enlsted.

In addition to his widow. the former Ada MacKenzie, he is sur- vived by three children and by his father, Patrick Murray of New Wiltshire. His mother is dead.

search for two Newfoundland fish- ermen adrift in a dory since Sun- day will be delayed by fog until tomorrow noon, R.C.A.F.» officials said here tonight. ' Meanwhile. the R.C.M.P. cutter French is heading for the search area. 260 miles northeast of here. and expects to reach there to- morrow morning.

The Newfoundland fishing schooner Golden Glorw reported the men missing in the small, open boat today and requested e. search. The dory carried neither food nor water.

OTTAWA, Aug. 2 —(CP) — A Fl- rtance Department official tonight estimated that Canadian buyers of new cars would save from $15,000,- 000 to 825000.000 if auwnlobne manufacturers pass along to con- sumers the reduction in excise taxes made Saturday.

The estimate was made on the H1515 of current level of produc- tion. The official said the tax re- duction for a car in the low-price field would amount to from $150 to $200.

He said savings on adiigh-prices car would be comparatively greor- er. For instance a car with a basin price of $2.000 carried an extra $500 in excise taxes last week. Now trc tax will total $200.

It. was problematical whether manufacturers would pass on the rntira saving. "There have been some price increases in the wind," the official said.

The Prince Edward Island Fed- eration of Agriculture has done a great deal to make the work of the National Federation more ef- fective, Mr. H. H. Honnam, presi- dent of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, told a large aud- ience of farmers lln the Prince of Wales College auditorium last night.

M)‘. R. A. Profit, president of the P. E. Island Federation, pre- sided. The first speaker was the Hon. W. F. A. Stewart who. in a brie-f address. said the farmers of the Island were fortunate in be- ing able to hear such a disting- uished speaker and agricultural executive as Mr. I-lannam.

Mr. Donald Anderson, st. Pet- er's, president of the JuniorFarm- ers of the Province, also spoke briefly. He expressed regret at the inability of the Junior farm- ers to hold their field day during Mr. Hannam's visit but said that bad haying conditions had made it necessary to postpone the event un-tll Aug. 23.

Mr. Ifannam was introduced by Mr. W. R. Shaw, deputy-Minister of Agriculture.

There were. few countries he had visited. Mr. Hannam said, which wuld compare with P. E. Island for its scenic beauty. Looking down upon it from the a.ir, he was reminded of parts of Ayr- shire. Scotland, and of sections of Ireland and Denmark. He did not know of any Province that was doing a better job in building up the soil.

Mir. Hannam said the Canadian Federation of Agriculture rep-re- sented 400.000 farmers scattered across Canada. That was why it had become such an influential body.
