That is, there were seven. who came out on that first day. "Polly has a nice family," thought 01' Mis- tah'Buznrd. "Prom up here they all look alike. I don't suppose they are alike, but that is thevway they look."

The next day he watched for the young woodchucka to come out. He wanted them. Then he counted them over again. There were eight instead of seven, and now they did not all look alike. one was much smaller than any of the others.

"Hello!" exclaimed 01' Mistah Buzzard. "Therets a. runt in the family. I'm sorry for the lhtlo fel- low. I'm always sorry for a mint in a big family. Runts get pushed around. and have a hard time. Often they den'trget tfneir share of the food: only what is left over."

A runt. as you know. is one who is very 'much smaller than others of the same age. It was true that there was a runt in the big family of Johnny Chuck and Polly Chuck. The little fellow wasn't more than half as big as his brothers and sisters. He was promptly named Runty. The name stuck. Nicknames are like that. Little Joe Otter is still called by that name although he isn't little at all. In fact he is big as folks living along Laughing Brook and the Big River are.

Hold Reunion At a lnvemess In July

The annual reunion of the North

Nova Scotia Highlanders will be

held in Inverness July 31st during the observance of ”Old Home Week” celebrations. The announcement

was made by A. J. Davis secretary

of the Memory Club.

The parade will fonn-up on cen- tral Avenue at l0 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held at the Band Stand at 10.30. Dinner will be serv- ed at noon at the Race Track by the Ladies' Guild or St. Matthew's Church.

The aitemoon program which will get underway at 1.30 includes selec- tions by massed Pipe Bands. In at- tondance will be the Cape Bre- ton Highlanders Band. the Inver- neas Band. Gaelic College Sydney Girls' Pipe Band, North Nova Scotia Highlanders Band and the New Glasgow Girls' Pipe Band. There will be Highland Dancing, Gaelic singing and step-dancing.

The Mira Boat Club will stage speed boat racing at Mclsaan Pond at 4 o'clock. In the evening at 1.30 there will be Stock Car Racing, Milling Frolic and Side Shown at the Race Track.

The program will conclude at io p.m. at the Band stand when there will be a fireworks display. flag lowering and ' i ceremonies. This will be under direction of the Invernass Firemen.

The reunion this year coincides with "Old Home Week" celebrations of Inverness and is a finale to this interesting event. All former North Novas are urged to attdnd. The program has been arranged by Al Davis one of the original officers of the Battalion and who is well and favorably known by many memb a of the unit.
