A “Fairiu I Psrr:it.”—'I‘he Daily News, an evening journal, issued at New- port, y., is essentially a “ family paper.” It is edited and published by W. S. Baily atid every type that goes into its columns is set by his daughters. The little girls so-t type with great facility. The paper is got ready, put to press, and worked oil‘ by the family in a inatler of course kind ofwuy, just as the dishes are wash- ed or any other job of housework per- formed.

A good story is told of a Connecticut par- sort. His country parish raised his salary from $300 per annum to .~[1;4oo. The good man objected, for three reasons. The President politely suggested the indelicacy of such a proceeding, and declined to yield to their wishes; whereupon one of the Irish- men, stepping forward, his face broad with humor, propounded the following
