On Sept. 16, the Associa- tion for Baha’i Studies at UPEI had the opportunity to- give a presentation on peace, in celebration of the Inter- national Day of Peace. The Association’s presentation began with a viewing of Doug Cameron’s video, Mona with the Children. This is a true story, which happened in' Iran, of a 17 yearsold girl who was executed because of her beliefs in peace and unity. After the video, Ritchie Rolfe gave a Baha’i perspective on peace. In the beginning of his . talk he noted that Mona had remarked to her mother while she was in prison, that if her execution would result in the youth of the world uniting, that she would suffer 100,000 executions.
Baha’is feel that in order to have a peaceful world that we must first learn how to unite ourselves, since unity is the essential characteristic of peace, and love is the founda- tion of unity. During the talk, 4. kinds of love were identi- fied: (1) The love from God to man (2) Man to God (3) The love of God towards the self, or identity of God (4) Man for man. This notion of love is quite different from what is normally considered love. It transcends the physical,,emotional and intel- lectual attributes of an indivi— dual and focuses on the reality of his being as a noble , creation with unique charac— teristics and qualities. Pre- sently the concentrations in Creating a peaceful world is to first remedy all the ills of mankind, i.e. crime, pre— judice, war. However, if a

they would» find that these ills are various symptoms of the basic disease -— disunity.

violence, terrorism, etc. It,
was noted that we» do not have a choice whether or not we can escape, but the choice is whether we will inhabit this planet as victims or as hero’s. The most powerful agent in dealing with stress is to have a sense of purpose. In 1984 the top administrative body of the Baha’i Faith (the Univer- sal House of Justice situated on Mt. Carmel, Israel) called on the youth to “sally forth unconstrained as the wind” into the field of service and action towards world peace. He continued by adding that the Baha’i youth have a sense of purpose: a mission to ac- complish the spiritualization of our lives. With our per- sonal unity intact, we may work effectively towards world peace and survive the stresses of our age.
It is with the love and devotion of Mona, who saw that nothing short of world unity was worth living for, that the youth of this world may indeed create a one planet, one people situation. However this all begins with ‘the individuals who want it.

For many students return- ing to schools means more than buffing up their penny loafers and asking Dad to shell out big bucks for tuition and books.

MAPUS is the Mature and Part-Time University Stui dents Association. All Part- Time and those full-time stu- dents 24 years of age and older are members of MAPUS.

WUSC Meets

World University Services Canada (WUSC) held its first meeting on Wednesday, Sep- tember 19, in the Economics Lounge, fourth floor, Main.
The first event WUSC plans is a Craft Caravan, which provides for display and gale of many handicrafts from countries where WUSC operates. The price—range is extensive, from a few dollars to several hundred dollars. At the meeting it was agreed to hold the Caravan on Oct. 3-5. At least one day will be allotted for the display at UPEI, most likely at the Robertson Library.
The second major item discussed was the WUSC application for sub-organiza- tional status. After a lively discussion of the costs and benefits of such an action, a mot-ion was passed recom- mending WUSC undertake the necessary steps to gain full sub-organization status. President Joe Byrne will take the necessary action and bring the matter to student council.
The next meeting of WUSC will take place on Thursday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m., in the Economics Lounge, fourth floor, Main. Everyone is welcome.
