Sir,—T he editor of the Protestant Union is wide of the mark in ranking the writer of the letter signed ‘‘Consistency,” which appeared in your last Monday's issue, as a a ‘‘secret sympathiser with the illicit rum traffic in the city.”” He may rest assured that “Consistency” is just as right in heart and sound in head on the matter of temper-

ance as is himself—-just as uncompromis-

ing an opponent of the “‘illicit rum traffic,” —and, as his letter shows, just as strong a

believer in the right of journalists to expose unfaithfulness on the part of

What ‘‘ Consistency ” was out of sympathy with was the personal asperity which appeared to characterize the inces- sant attacks made upon Mr. Fitzgerald— representing him as being incompetent in his profession as a lawyer—and even drag- ging before the public the name of Ms father, the venerable and beloved ex- Rector of the parish.
