The many friends of Mr. Stephen Shaw were saddened to hear of his

Edward Island Hospital which he had entered three weeks before for treatment. Although he had been in poor health for some months, Stephen. as he was famil- iarly known. had continued to visit around among his ‘friends until he entered the hospital.

‘Mr. Shaw was born in New Perth, son of the late Robert Shaw and Catherine MacDougall. and for many years had carried on farming on the old homestead where he was so wcll and favorably known. 1n 1939 he and. Mrs. Shaw moved to Charlottetown where they lived for the past eleven years. He leaves to mourn his wife, formerly Ethel Beet of Montague. and two daugh-

The funeral which warheld from the home of his daughter Mrs. Wiz- fred Livingstone. was very largely attended by friends from the coun- iry and city and the many beauti- ful flowers testified to the esteem in which he was held.

The Red Feather appeal for the Community Chest is on again. The faithful who deny themselves in order to support it will again deny themselves to help others less favored than they. Then they will hear of many of the well-to-do _who, on one pretext or another. refuse to give or help. They will be tempted i0 say. "It ll IlWBYB to‘ the same old crowd that the appeal comes, because those who can give, won't."

Well, what is Christ's cause to do but fall back on those who are willing-on those who have caught the spirit of the Crucified? Arid this is Christ's cause.

A keen horseman was once driv- ing around the Gaspe coast, and at the foot of a steep hill he saw e team of horses and their driver resting before attempting the climb. That teamster had no re- gard for his own appearance, but his horses‘ coals were shining and every strap of the harness was clean. He was going round them, patting them, testing the traces, and feeling the fit of the collars in preparation for the pull. As the stranger stopped lo admire, he remarked: "That's a bad hill and this is a heavy load. Of course, the team is good for it if they pull together. Prince here is all right. but Bob on the off side sometimes quits: and, if ne balks on that hill, ills all day with me. Oh well, I guess I'll risk ii!" and he swung into the drivers seat, and off they went.

One Willing Worker

It was a magnificent sight lo a horsemanb eyes as with every muscle in action and with short and steady steps. they climbed up. ward, the load light to their unit. ed strength. But just as they drew near to the crest of the hill Bob balked, and threw himself back into the harness. With a shout that only an out-door man could give. the teamsier yelled "Prince" and leaped to his side. The noble animal responded. The first strain brought him to his knees. Then he slowly raised himself holding the load as he did w, and with each step lifting the clod from the road-bed, he began to edge the load upward. As the pull was_ only on one side of the tongue, he turned the wheel as he moved forward, and, as he reached the crest. the front wheels were turn- ed side on to the grade, and the load was safe.

Nation Saved By Few

God's answer was “Yet have I left me seven thousand in lsracl, all the knees which have most bo\v- od i0 the Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him" That, remnant, the faithful few who suffered rather than renounce Israel's God, was the salt which saved the nation from corruption.

The faithful few who discerni God's purpose and accept resprm-i sibilily for working it out in their time are the salvation of every cause. Once, in the promising

Movement, some speakers at convention pointed out how easy it would be to evangelize the world in their generation if every church-member would do his share. After a half day had been given to this discussion, Robert E. Spear was called on for an ad-I dress. Protesting against these easy methods of saving mankind, he exclaimed in effect: “The world will never be evangclized in that way.
