Wett Patronizep. ~The handsome sum of over twelve hundred dollars, clear of all ex- penses, was realized at the Souris Tea on Thursday last. Over three thousand people were present, all of whom were on their best behavour. Peace and good will prevailed on every hand. We congratulate the Rev. Pastor of St. Mary’s, and with him the committee of management upon the success which attended their mammoth tea.

A Peasant Cuance.—The warships Bellerophon, Canada and Partridge arrived at Newport on Thursday morning and were given a royal reception. A Newport des- patch says: ‘‘The fleet left Halifax on Thursday and had a rather disagreeable voyage. The fogs were thick and the Bellerophon was obliged to wait for her consorts. The officers will find Newport a pleasant change from Halifax.”

Sueer KitLep.—Twenty-seven sheep, the property of Donald and Wm. Crockett, of Little York—14 of which belonged to the former and 13 to the latter—were killed on Sunday morning last by dogs. A few were not killed at the time but were so mutilated that they subsequently had to be shot. Later on in the day a dog was seen prowling around the barn smelling the carcasses and was immediately killed.

A VALUABLE Purcnase.—A magnificent three-year-old Jersey bull, called the **Clare- sont Avenue,” raised by Mr. Fairweather, of Nova Scotia, and imported by Mr. P. W. Me- Laughlin, was purchased last week by Mr. James W. Dingwell, of Bay Fortune. Mr. Dingwell has raised many fine horses in his time, and now’ has invested money in an animal with first-class registered pedigree, the first Jersey, we understand, that has ever been imported into that section of King’s County.

MackereEL Puentirut.—An exchange says: Capt. Jerome F. McDonald, who has just arrived in Gloucester, Mass., from a tive weeks visit in Prince Edward Island, reports that the shores of the Island are lined with large mackerel, and the small boats «nd nets are reaping a harvest, but the fish are so far in shore that the seiners cannot take them. ———e Live Stock Suirments —The Pioneer says: During the past week considerable live stock has been shipped by this route. On Monday 90 lambs and 10 sheep were shipped by Mr. C. Kane for St. John. Two horses were also sent over thesame evening, Again on Wed- nesday 80 lambs were sent over by Mr. D. Keefe for the same market, and on Thursday 29 were shipped by Charles McNutt, of Ken- sington, for the Leamans of Halifax. On Friday 3 horses were sent over, and Mr. James Larkin, of Alberton, sent over 20 lambs. On Saturday again 125 lambs were shi ped by Mr. P. McGrath for the St. John market.

No buggies or carriages will be allowed on or near the ground selling intoxicating liquor. There will be a committee appointed to watch those smugglers at the gate and bush where those gentlemen resort. There is tov much of this business done at Tea Parties and Horse Trots. Take notice, that if you core you will get your liquor spilled.
