But John couldn't tell Ilory. He couldn't believe little Andy Callahan. whom Diluted. step by step. through one of the stormfest and most amaz- inz and most successful b xing Cursors. had been killed in action 011a battle front i Italy on- Aim- islivc Day as repo ted yesterday.

Besides his seven battles with Puller. his iricst memorable en- counters were against Brouillard and Dundee. .a pair of huddle- weights to whom he spotted l’! pounds on each occasion. He gave Brouillard as fine a culling as Brouillard ever received. ‘Phat bout earned him the right to fight Dundee for the middleweight championship of the world. In order to fight Dundee for tho crown. Callahan had to weigh at least 150 pounds. He wasn't even a welterweight. which class car- ries a weight limit of 14'! pounds. His manager. Buckley. switched a specially manufactured weight for the one at the boxing mission office which was designed to weigh some 1'1 pounds more than it did and the commission sanct- ioned the match for the cham- pionship of the world.

There wasn't half a dozen cus- tomers. unless it was Callahaws immediate family and Buckley who thought he had a chance un- less it was Vince Dundee and his handlers, for they screeched so long and hard against a "Boston decision that the officials finally broke their backs bending back- ward to give the outsider. Dundee. the but of it.
